weekly RG Miller 2016 - 52 Challenge

Hi Richard. Not sure how this one, and others, bypassed me. As others have commented, nicely lit to bring out the depth of the object. I like the subtle tones of the metalwork as well as the industrial-like setting. Clever man your father-in-law. Brilliant shot:clap:

I think this is fantastic, really love the lighting and the way the wheel and pipe stand out. Great choice of background as well, really unusual yet effective, but as others have said I think the only 'fault' is where the background vertical doesn't quite fit in with the base. Being totally useless with my hands, I always stand in awe and doff my cap to the ingenuity of engineers who can conceive, plan and then build things such as this with relative ease.

Catching up with commenting.

Old - Lovely colours, particularly like the background and the warmth on the wood.

Metal - Nice shot of an interesting object, love the lighting and the background you've put it on.

Old & Metal ... what excellent props, well lit & shot with interesting/unusual(y) BGs.
 
I like the mencing nature but the lack of an actual captive - the light bulb at the top of the frame is spot on :clap:
 
Richard, really like this, simple but so on the money for the theme, good lighting and framing
 
Very nicely executed ( oops :D)
from the bulb to the bits of rope.
It works well IMO Richard :thumbs:
 
HI Richard. Nice scene made more dramatic by b&w treatment and subtle lighting. Excellent for the theme.
 
I agree with all the appraisal so far ... plus I find something special about the low full frontal POV with that wide angle feel that I can't explain. :)
 
Captive: well composed . maybe have brought the chair forward a bit as creases in material distract me a little. I like the minimalistic approach in this.
 
Great suggestive image - less is more in this case.

I like the model engine for Metal. Beautifully made. Great backdrop too- works really well. My only crit is that some of the metalwork is a touch dark in places.
Very good thinking on Captive. I like the concept and the out of the box thinking :)
 
Wk3 Miniature - well that didn't give us much to go on! Decided I would not look any an other submissions this week - until I had entered my own! Much less intimidating! Played around with a few macro ideas but then thought I would concentrate on the theme of scale - the tea pot is miniature but needed something to set it against. The vaguely subtle old tea shop look of the spotty table cloth finished the shot nicely.....

Oh Yes, that's a nice composition Richard - kind of an olde worlde look about it. The bit I like best is that little wisp of steam coming out of the spout - love that rich colour of the teapot too. :clap:

Nice set up and as Carl says the steam from the spout really adds to the image. Was that in the shot or have you added it PP? Well done either way.

Not a tea drinker so maybe a daft question but why do you have a miniature teapot?

Just one comment there is quite a strong magenta hue to the image.
Not sure if that was intentional or not?

Hi Steve - it is PP steam - the pot being stone cold by the time the lighting was set up! The little tea pot is a great looking little item - completely useless of course!

Hi Cobra - I put a graduation with slight hue in the bottom right of the image to soften the slightly harsher lighting in lower edge and a a bit of interest - and a darker one across the top to balance the image.
I tried it with and without - and decided I quite liked the effect!

There's nothing wrong with it, I just wondered if it was intentional as its quite strong :)
 
Hi, not sure on the lighting I know you said its intensional just doesn't seem to work for me, but if it works for you thats all that matters
