RF602 & Smartflashes

Hi All,

I finally got round to setting up my Smartflashes this weekend, I never managed to use my RF602 to trigger the flash though.

I connected the trigger to my camera, plugged the receiver in with the sync cable to one of 2 flashes, set the other to CELL.

When I sync the trigger and receiver I get the green lights, when I press the shutter I get no flash and while depressing the shutter the lights on trig/receiver quickly turn red then go green again. But no flash fire.

The included sync cable that came with the Smartflash triggers it fine, so not the flash itself at fault.

I use the trigger and receiver without any issues on my flashgun so they do work fine.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Nope just green lights on Trans and receiver indicating sync

Have you tried new batteries I have had that problem when the receiver batteries where low, enough power to light the green light but not enough to trigger

Thanks Paul, batteries are new. After looking at this pic I'm a little confused, it looks like he's using the receiver on his camera and not transmitter? My transmitter has no sync lead as per eBay link.

I think that may be a set of RF603 rather than RF602
Different animal!

Sounds like there's a connection problem somewhere in the lead/head. I would guess the lead, as those YN cables are not 100% reliable. Loose end/dry joint or whatever.

Plug it into the other head and if that still doesn't fire, but the receiver lights up as it should, chances are it's the lead/plug. Unlikely to get two heads with the same fault.

Cheers Hoppy, will try that. Im also thinking the lead as the supplied Lencarta lead connected to the camera port fires the head fine.

I'm guessing you've checked the TX/RX are all on the same channel. What happens if you press the tx button. You should see the RX light change (I think it flashes red, then goes red for half press, green for full press).

Batteries.

It's always batteries.

Green lights will show but lights won't fire if batteries are low. I know they are new but I'd change them.

BTW lots of problems with 602s can be solved by removing transmitter battery for a full minute.

Good point Jonathan, regarding batteries. To be honest, it's something I tend to overlook as I possibly change my batteries far too early. OK, so it costs a few pence by changing early, but I save a lot of time messing around, chasing down faults
