RF 603 issue

I am trying to trigger the shutter of a 7D when I shoot with my 1D.

The 7D has the RF603 on the hotshoe with the shutter cable connected to the camera.

The 1D has the RF603 on the hotshoe but it won't trigger when I shoot with it,
I can only trigger it when I press the button on the RF603.

Can anyone help? Thanks
 
Try replacing the battery, they can do funny things when the batteries get low on juice.
 
I'm not sure that they work in quite that way. If the 603 is installed in a hotshoe then it will trigger another 603's hotshoe or PC output when the shutter on the master camera is actuated. I don't think it triggers the auxilliary output on the receiver/slave unless you push the trigger button on the master unit.

I think you need rf602's, i don't think the 603's can trigger the shutter.
 
I think i'd be inclined to forget the hotshoe connection on the 7D and try using the cable connection with the 603 on a bracket. HTH's
 
Have you tried taking the RF-603 out of the 7D hot shoe and just leaving it connected via the cable. I think the RF-603 may go in to transmit mode when its fitted in a hotshoe.
 
I have the same issue - works with 602s and I expected the 603s to work in the same way with the benefit of the standard batteries but doesn't look like they do work that way.

Pretty sure I tried it off the hot shoe as well :(

Tried that but it doesn't work, I will just have to trigger it manually.

Hi Dave,
I'm not too familiar with the 602's but i thought they were receivers only, with a separate trigger unit. Am i correct then in thinking that the trigger unit will connect via the hotshoe and fire a second unit.

I have a 40D and 1D that i would like to achieve this with. I'm using 603's at the moment and holding one in my hand with the other camera., but it would be far better to trigger it by firing my other camera.

Hiya.

Pretty sure my other set are RF602s and they are separate transmitter and receivers - I'll check. These worked really well by triggering from the hot shoe. The reason I moved to 603s was mainly due to the batteries being more accessible and being able to use rechargeables. I just assumed they would work in the same way! I was finding that the range would really suffer as the battery faded, which happened quite quickly. Triggering by hand is a pain and I'd much rather have many rubbish shots that I just delete and shoot off the hotshoe than juggle the trigger.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to sound a bit vague but the only pic's i've seen of the trigger unit show a button to be pressed manually.
Are you saying that this has connections to hotshoe which will then fire other units or is this only on the upgraded 602's?

Hi John,

The 602s and the 603s both have a hotshot mount. When using them as a remote trigger the one on the receiver is just used to hold it on the camera as its connected by a remote release cable. However, with the 602s (old and new) if you've got the transmitter on the hot shoe then when you hit the shutter release it has the same effect as pressing the button.

Thanks for that Dave. As i said, i thought they were receivers only.
The idea of firing two cameras with one press is good, must try it,so it's 602's then!
