Right so the company that admits that they CAN'T make them says that they don't see the point.... That's probably not the least biased opinion 
I've got a Hitech one for testing but don't seem to be able to find decent sunsets at the moment - I will try to make an effort today and will post findings if I do.

I have one of the Hitechs, it is useful for a specific circumstance, namely sunrise and sunset, mainly over the sea. It is handy for that but not an everyday filter.

The article that Lee have linked to within their response (http://www.onlandscape.co.uk/2010/12/ad-hoc-reverse-nd-grad-filters/) is really quite interesting.
I'll be giving it a go......not ideal by any means but then neither is dropping circa £100 on a reverse grad.

2 stop hitech would be the one to get. 3 stops can be a little heavy. And they only make sense with very clean straight horizon (i.e. sea) at sun-set/rise. At the right place and at the right time they are nice to use. For general use I'd prefer regular 2-3 stop hard ND grads
