yepThanks but does this still apply if I have tested the camera?

'According to the guidance drawn up by the Office of Fair Trading on how to interpret those regulations – that right remains, even if they open the box and remove the packaging. Ingrid Gubbay Consumer Lawyer says “When you are in a shop you can inspect the product. You can test the product. You know exactly what you’re looking for. But you can’t do that so much online. And so the Distance Selling Regulations allow you a bit more flexibility.”'![]()

The ease of shopping online means that it’s fast becoming the preferred choice for many but while buying goods is easy, returning them can be frustrating.www.bbc.co.uk
Ah - this might explain my intense dislike of a Panasonic mirrorless system I tried years ago. It really was laggy and buggy.
Of course, with an optical view finder you don't have to worry about such things and can just get on with things
Then you were doing something wrong.
Honestly, even my ancient Panasonic G1 had negligible EVF lag.
And no, with an OVF you can't just get on with things. The things which will cause excessive lag with mirrorless will be crippling with an optical system too, try stopping a DSLR down to fxx with the DoF preview button pressed and you'll have a problem, actually probably worse. The answer is to RTM and understand how to set the camera up.
I don't use the DoF button on the DSLR. I understand DoF and how to focus and just use the large bright superior OVF.
I suspect there is however a setting in this camera that needs changed, but the OP should buy a 645z instead![]()
I mentioned the DoF button as it's easy to set a mirrorless camera up to be laggy, you can hopefully see my point.
I know you're joking here and maybe I'm in a grumpy mood but shouldn't "we" be giving good advice in threads like this?
Trashing mirrorless cameras, praising OVF's or recommending 645z's may be a fun jolly wheeze but seems misleading and pointless when the OP (to me) clearly has a set up issue not a fault and my concern is that with respect to the OP, if he has little knowledge of what could cause this he could end up in the exact same situation with any mirrorless camera.
Tony only mentions it being used a couple of times. I think the official Wex policy 'You haven't used the item (items are not sold on a trial basis)' sounds more restrictive than the Distance Selling Regulations allow. Obviously you'd have to use a camera in a limited way to do any sort of meaningful test. But that doe not mean you can use the camera for a week, rattle off 1000 frames and then send it back, because you can't do that in shop. Once you start to use the item you are deemed to have accepted the goods. If the OP has only taken a few photos on the camera then it probably won't be a problem sending it back.

I think all the shops where I have bought cameras have allowed me to power them up and get a feel for them, which would reveal the kind of problem described in this thread. So it would seem entirely reasonable to do the same with a mail order camera, where you don't have access to the shop's demo cameras. Having to accept a certain number of 'open box' returns is part of the cost of doing business for a mail order company, and appears to be a legal requirement. Nobody is suggesting you should be able to use the camera like a free rental. You may inspect the goods as you would be able to in a shop. Many shops will have them on display to handle but many retailers will not have memory cards installed or charged batteries fitted.
If I buy a pair of hiking boots in a shop, I can try them on and walk around a bit in the shop. If I order hiking boots online I can't wear them out on a 10 mile hike. That would be a meaningful test as to whether or not they are still comfortable and my feet are still dry after hiking for 4 hours.
If that isn't a hardware fault on that specific body, then it's a design fault.I suppose all is done and dusted but I think there's zero chance the OP's problem is a hardware fault.
I'm pretty convinced the lagging display is purely down to settings. I just think it's a shame to send back kit because of an issue which is almost certainly user error as if nothing else there's the chance that this will happen again with any replacement kit if the user doesn't know what's going on and why.
I know how to handle a camera thanks, zero lag on my S1, XT4, A7iii and Nikon z6 using the same settings that were on my S5I suppose all is done and dusted but I think there's zero chance the OP's problem is a hardware fault.

Horses for courses throughout.Last Sony I tried was the A7RIII - could see it was getting there but not quite. The A7RiV and A1 are more interesting but I feel they feel a little small in the hands for me. Z7 - not arsed. Only 45mp and doesn't seem to offer anything over a D850 for me.
Fuji - yes - but only for the 100mp - which will come to Pentax and probably the K1 III will have the A7RIV sensor.
As a camera, ignoring the sensor, the 645z is a landscape shooters dream. So logically laid out and the nice big OVF makes composing a joy and doddle. Throw in the hilariously accurate AF - stupendously accurate metering and it's the DSLR to end all DSLRs.
Yes they advised me to return for a refund or creditI know I linked above to other reports of the same issue but did not read them in detail. Therefore, though you mentioned transposing settings from your S1 to the S5, possibly there are differences in the hardware that means the response of the S5 is different to the S1 ???
However, have you spoken to Wex and sorted it out to your satisfaction?

It suffers when its a slow shutter speed but even when turned higher every now and again it suffers a slowdown, I know it will suffer at a slower shutter speed and this isn't good enough for our needs so therefore it has been shipped back to wexYou're possibly shooting at slow shutter speeds and clearly have constant preview enabled and that combination may be closing the aperture down and could be causing the lagging but, you're the one with the camera in front of you, not me, and although it looks like user error it could be a fault.
Agree - I think they’re phenomenal. generally all the G series (g95,g9 etc) and bill amazingly, feel fantastic and are so good operationally tooI quite like a number of Panasonic cameras despite some of their shortcomings.
Now this can be difficult to see with the sun behind youLooks like you're looking at a Sony A1, or DSLR or other high end mirrorless system
Ha, both my 5ds and 645z have in viewfinder leveling - and both will give histograms in live view. The metering is so good with the 645z it doesn't need this function - and it has focus peaking, which I've never bothered to use as again, with the AF it just finds it.
I've never not been able to see anything with an OVF. They're ace.
