having never printed any of my pics off I am a little confused on what size I need to resize my pics to, if I want a4 pics how many pixels is this??

also whan I crop something how do you get this to then fit your paper size with out distorting the pic, lets say you have cropped something to 1000 x 1500 and it needs to be 1000 x800 to fit on the paper surley if you resize it to this the pic will look long and thin.
sorry if this sound stupid but I havent a clue on printing I bought a pixma 14300 3 months ago and its still sat in the box :bonk:

Hi Rick
when printing images you typically need 300 dpi (dots per inch)
so an A4 is 12.3inch x 8.75inch which = 3690 x 2625 pixels
which is @ 9.6 meg
when cropping you have to chop a bit off to preserve the proportions, to avoid the distortion. In photoshop it's called constrain proportions, you didnt say what software you're using..
some labs use 254 dpi (100dots/cm) for printing, you can go as low as 150dpi, but don't study the prints too closely, best viewed at a distance.

hope that helps..
