I've spent the night processing and uploading my pictures from the Wirral Show ready to post up for comment. The photos look good to me when I view them in Canons Digital photo Pro at full size. However when ever I try to resize them to the 800 pixel limit, they go to pot and look like a 1970s computer game.....

I've tried various methods such as using the Canon Software, Corels Photo Shop 11 as part of Graphics Suite 11, Image resizer Powertool for windows by Microsoft and Photbuckets resize tool.

Heres an example:

Full Size (sorry Mods)

resized....Note the "water mark effect around the plane:thumbsdown::bang:

Any ideas? I have just got GIMP but haven't figured out how to use it yet!

I am not seeing the issue

Me neither. There is a little bleed from the Jpeg compression if that is what you mean. Up the the jpeg compression quality and that should solve it.

What quality setting are you using?

X800 from your original:

If I blow up your picture I get the ghosting

Output from photoshop after shrinking the picture to xxx X 800 and saving at quality 11 giving 150K

*** We have all answered at the same time here ! Its definately down to too much jpg compression as the above shows at 11of12, just dont compress them as much.

I running at max quality. However The DPI is 350, I'm trying 600 ATM and seeing how it looks

I have a shot of the belly of the A380...Full size I can see the rivets on the panels at 800 pixels they merge into a grey line!!

Why is your 800 Pixel image bigger than mine?....Oh er Missus

yours is much much sharper than mine  Maybe I'm Tired?

You shouldn't even bother, really. Anything over 72dpi at 800px wide is lost anyway. The only time I keep the DPI higher for web images is if there are a lot of subtle color shifts in the image.

350 is canons DPP default. I have noticed in this example the lack of detail in my smaller image. In particular the starboard Nav light that an be seen in the original and in Cowasakis resize but not mine.

Could it be down to Photoshop CS3. I haven't sharpened it !

It must be a monitor thing.....

I've come into work and the ghosting on the first image is 99% gone. Yet it's there on my Laptop. On the laptop it looks like our daughter has tried to trace the outline of the plane with a black fineliner.
