Resizing Problem

I have recently taken some images with the camera set at jpeg large, when I try to resize them for posting on TP, I set the resolution at 72 and pixel width at 800 ( which usually gives me a 150-200kb file ) but for some reson these are 1.2mb files, what am I doing wrong?

If you are using PS use save as web as this will give you the option of the file size.

You're probably saving at the maximum jpg quality. If you do as Sturs says you have the option to reduce the quality which in turn reduces the file size. Alternatively when you save the file it usually prompts you for a compression factor I think.

Resize your image to 800 pixels on the longest side, and then use the Save-As option. This will bring up an option to adjust the quality of the jpeg file. In Photoshop this goes from maximum 12 downwards. Depending on the image, I usually find a setting of around 8 or 9 will give me a file size just below 200kb.
