Resize to post on Forum?

Hello. I can't find the recommended resize of an image to post on a forum. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Chuck. For the pics I post here I mostly use Steve Perrys web sharpener/resize action (which I love) He's got a youtube channel and the action is still on free link from there, or you can simply copy his method, you can turn off the sharpening part if you dont want it.
Main thing is under 500kb and no bigger than 1024px on the long side.
 
A Freeware Program called IRFANVIEW has been available for many years and the creator keeps improving it. It's relatively small and easy to use. For posting, I usually resize to 4" X 6" at 72 DPI, but many forums will now take larger. 72 DPI is about the smallest that displays good on TV or Computer Displays. It is my "GOTO" for sizing, but it also works well to create slide shows of every photo in a directory, then repeats until stopped. I've been using this program for the past 25 years for basic editing, sizing, and slide shows. Irfan is the first name of the developer. For safety, I'll only download Freeware from CNET. Be certain to download both the program and the Divix/Codex file.

Displays work in pixels DPI and PPI is irrelevant when saving an image for display. PPI is purely for printing and DPI shouldn't even be a thing when it comes to saving or resizing images although some people use DPI and PPI to mean the same thing.

A file saved at 1024 x 800 at 72PPI or 300PPI is exactly the same size and quality.
