Yes
I'll be purchasing an Ethernet hard drive shortly and will, as a result, have quite a few traditional hard. Drives (from 250gb - 1tb) to move on - if these are formatted and shown to be working fine (screenshot from disk utility) is there a market for these?

Thank you

Yes, I have bought a number of used HD from AV forums.

The smallest drives aren't worth much, especially if they're 3+ years old (and would you really risk your data on an old drive, just to save a couple of quid?) and even 1TB drives are small & cheap (£40 for a new, fast unit) by current standards.

Another vote for Crystal Disk Info together with screen shot of results.

Out of interest what ethernet HD are you looking at?

Cheers - that's what I thought, was just thinking any I get for them will help pay for the new one. Thank you!

Thank you! I am looking at this one - the 6 TB version. I like the fact you can plug in anther hard drive if required to increase storage more

And dispose of the drill swarf in a separate bin over a number of weeks. But make sure you are not followed.

Reminds me of the Jasper Carrot sketch - where you cut up your old credit card upon receiving a new one.

"You cut it in half, then in half again (to be sure). You look at it; then; a couple more times"..... "just how could anyone ever present a pile of bits to a shop as payment"

I use a WD MyCloud 3TB version. Works very well as a NAS, but is beyond tediously slow as a Time Machine drive.

Surely that's a Time Machine problem if it works fine as a NAS? Try another backup program.

Yes I think it is a Time Machine problem. It works fine as a NAS drive (with other programmes), as I already said.

Single disc; single point of failure. Ok for non-critical storage purposes.
The more disks, the greater chance of failure! :)

But a single disk NAS is fine in combination with other storage locations such as your PC and off-site/cloud backups

Dump Time Machine and use something faster then. If it's a problem.
I use a different drive for Time Machine, works a treat. My comments were more of an observation than difficulty stating.

Let me try again... As a NAS drive the WD MyCloud that I have, works fine. It is less useful in my experience for Time Machine, so I don't use it for that.
