Hi I haven't been on here for a while I just sold my old Canon 350D with kit lens and I'm looking to replace that with something else for my 550D witch I only bought body only last year. I've got a 50mm lens but as you know its fixed range. I'm looking for something under £200 for now with long range.
What do you think of the Sigma 70-300mm or the Canon 55-250mm?
I hear the canon is sharper but is it better than the Sigma would you agree?

I've got the 55-250mm - brilliant purchase for the price.

Canon 55-250 is the better of the two in my experience. The 55-250 is one of the best lenses in the budget end of the market.

Do you not need anything under 50mm? That usually the most popular focal range for general use.

I am gearing towards the Canon 55-250. I'm hoping to get the Samyang 8mm for anything under 50mm as its wide angel and a fisheye. Hopefully at the end of the year to get one.

I'll recommend the Canon 55-250IS as well. Daughter has one and really likes it.

Another alternative is the Canon 70-300IS - little more expensive (I've one for sale in the classifieds if you're interested), but a very good lens...
