Hi all,

Taking photos has been a passionate hobby of mine for about 7 or 8 years now.

I have had the Sony Alpha 350 since it was new back in 2008 as my first "Proper" camera. This camera has been adequate for what I do but now the steady shot has given up the ghost and the photos are coming out not as you expect when you line the shot up.

So i'm going to bite the bullet and treat myself to a new camera, however im really stuck at which one to buy and weather its worth getting second hand to get a better deal for the money.

Looking to spend around £500ish and would like a couple lenses with that. Was thinking around the 700D but what I don't want to do is buy one and regret it if I could get more for my money.

I know most people are mainly either Canon or Nikon - but having read and heard reviews on both and tried both - I still don't know which one to go for.

Fully appreciate what ever I get is an upgrade but would like something that is happy to be a "workhorse" and last me another 7 or 8 years.

Looking for some help and advise please.

I don't have a set style of photography as I love to shoot anything from portraits to motorsport to landscapes to nature.

Thanks in advanced.

I think if it was me I would be looking at something a bit newer than a 700D like the 750D as its got the new 24mp sensor as well as a few more bells and whistles, also given the wide range your after for photography, I would be also looking at getting a canon 18-135mm stm lens. This combo should last a few years before need to upgrade again. But maybe your gonna have to up your budget a little or try buying grey import from the likes of panamos or buy 2nd hand from WEX, MPB and a few others or there's even eBay. I would get back down to your local camera shop and handle a few before committing to a new dslr brand.

If you have any extra lenses for your A350, why not stay with Sony? The SLT-A77 fits your budget and will use your existing lenses.

:plus1:If you have any lenses and accessories for the Sony stick with that brand,

The only equipment I have is kit lenses - the 18-70 and 75-300

and these have had a hammering over the years with all different types of shooting.. so would potentially like new (newish) as they would probably produce better results anyway.

Thank you for this information. I will do as you say and go to a local camera shop and see what they say.

Hi all.

Finally had chance to do some research and get to local camera shop.

Have been looking at the canon 750D/ 760D range and got talking to the helpful sales guy. He said he also has a 70D that is second hand for £550 and will give a 6 month guarantee on it.

While we were in there we were looking at lenses and they have a Tamron 18-250mm lenses for £200.

I didn't want to rule out Nikon so he showed us the equivalent nikon to the canon 760D. When I handled it, it immediately became clear I preferred the canon. Just felt comfier to hold and use.

What I'm asking is

Is it worth going to the 70D over the 760D?

I've been reading and watching reviews. It has swayed me to the 70D due to the small extra features but also the better battery life.

What is your opinions on these deals? Is it a good price or worth going elsewhere?

Thanks in advanced.

If it was me I would choose the 70D over the 760D, It should produce better images. Battery's are cheaper and the same ones used by the other pro and semi pro cameras like the 5D,6D,7D and IDX models as well as giving better performance. £550 with a 6 month warrantee seems like a good deal if its in nearly new condition. I would go for it.
