Hi guys and girls,
I have the Sigma 105mm macro lens which i must say i absolutely love. Probably my favourite lens out of all of mine.
But im finding that as it focus's by extending the lens in and out, when i do bug shots i occasionally knock the bug with the lens as it comes out, and there for scaring the bug off.
Is there any other lens roughly 100mm that focus's in lens but is near enough the same value as the sigma so i could do a straight swap?

Any help and information from you guys would be most helpful.

Only one that I know of that is internal focus around that length is the Canon 100mm macro lens I've seen them go for reasonable prices SH so perhaps look there.

But before you do can I make a suggestion try setting your magnification first so if you know your going to need 1:1 just put it to there before you approach , I used full tubes on my old sigma for quite a while and didn't give too many bugs headaches doing it that way.

Hmm might have to do that, I love the lens, it's sharp as anything so I'd be sorry to see it go.
Time to learn where the focus ranges are then.

Thanks for the advice.

Might take a few attempts but it soon becomes easier. and as your not shooting with tubes it shouldn't be as much as a problem, Could be worse though I've tried full tubes plus a reversed lens. :)

With 1:1 you are going to be very close with whatever macro lens you choose. I'd definitely approach them with the lens already extended though so the critters don't get such a nasty surprise!

It might be safer to keep slightly further away and crop a bit more.

As the canon 100mm f2.8 macro is internally focussing you don't have that problem. Its as sharp as anything and very well made. You should be able to get one for around £300 second hand. I love mine very much! I have never had a bug bumping incident with mine. I may have fallen in the bush once though! ;)

Lol menthel, think i may have done that once or twice to, so not the lens's fault. hehe.
Thanks for all your replies guys, if i still keep poking the bugs might have to have a look into seeing if anyone wants to swap their canon for my sigma.
