Yes
Dell D620.

Looking to increase HDD capacity, 160Gb methinks (currently 80).
Machine spec says 2.5" SATA 5400rpm.
Looking for a drop-in replacement, then write a ghost image back to it.
After a reliable UK supplier and (obviously) best price.
Any suggestions? TIA.

ebuyer.co.uk should be pretty cheap. You can get either a hard drive or go for SSD. Some come with ghosting options- not sure if you can link 2 hard drives to your laptop at once though

I fitted a new drive in a mates Dell Inspiron I think, this was the drive we used,

we got it here from Aria

there is also a 500 GB version for an extra tenner.

+1 for ebuyer

also www.scan.co.uk & keep your eye out for their today only deals

Alternatively get a WD Passport USB 2 powered drive. Ijust got a 500gb one for £61 @pcworld

If you want to massively improve the performance of your laptop, SSD is the way to go. They aren't cheap though. I got a small one from eBuyer and it made a huge difference to my PC.

not really a good move if you just need to increase storage though.. a 160Gb as the OP is after will cost over £300.

also an SSD isnt going to make that much difference to system performance, startup times arent massively improved. general usage is a bit snappier but its not really mindblowing.

Hmmmm... Thanks for that link Jim. I see it's SATA II. What model Inspiron did you slap it into? I'll have to check if my D620 is SATA II compatible.
If so, at that price it's certainly worth a punt!

I recently upgraded my Toshiba Satelite L300 from 160 to 500gig. I still have the 160 if you want it it's yours for a small donation to Help for Heros.

That's mighty kind of you Bob! I'll take you up on that offer if I may.
If you will tell me how to make such a donation (probably very simple) I'll get onto it sharpish.
If you'll kindly do that, I'll PM you my address details and sort out any postage you may incur ;-)

Hi Colin, You can make a donation here

I've just attached it to my desktop and formatted it so I can have it in the post for you tomorrow.
