Yes
I've got an 11 reg Focus 1.6 diesel which had served me well this far, about 15,000 miles per year.

I'm thinking now that it's time to replace it and wondering about a Mondeo. Due to anticipated changes in the autumn I'm likely to be doing more miles, mostly motorway driving so would appreciate the extra comfort.

I'm looking at the Zetec Business Edition and either 1.6l or 2l version. Road tax at the moment is £30 / year and over its lifetime I've averaged 52.3 mpg which isn't bad given I do a lot of London driving as well as motorways. The built in Sat nav and Bluetooth are great do I'd probably go for that again.

I bought the Focus with 2,500 miles on the clock and will aim for a low mileage Mondeo under 6 months old. Probably around 15k to spend.

What are people's thoughts on the move up to a Mondeo? I'm probably sticking with Ford as I can get it serviced easily by a relative working for Ford. Just wondering if the cost of ownership will increase much?

Or should I look somewhere else like an Avensis?

Thanks for any thoughts.

We have 2 x focus 1.6 TDCi's with inbuilt sat and bluetooth for our pool cars. I think Zetec or Zetec S.

If sole driving or 2 up I would consider top end range of a new Focus as well? Our replacement due June is a Titanium Navigator EcoSomething... 99k of Co2 so £30 tax or so, and will alledgedly do combined 67 mpg , so prob high 50's in reality unless heavy right foot.

Whilst not a fan of the badge, the 11 plate has 60k on it, and the 61 has 50k on it and have been realitivity trouble free with the exception of people not being able to judge their size (used to driving Aygo's / KA's etc)

Certainly been trouble free with oil and filter changes every 6k miles. That's another reason I'm thinking of staying with Ford.

I replaced my 11 plate focus with a 12 plate 1.6 econetic mondeo business model. Great motor but just needs a new outlook on the gear changes, the 6 speed box acts a bit different.

Glad I changed up - cracking motor

Phil.

I think you may struggle to get the mpg with the Mondeo, especially around town. What model Focus do you have at the moment? Would a higher spec Focus model provide the comfort you require?

Thanks for that.

How do you find the 1.6 in the bigger car? Many reviews like it but I'm not sure about it.

The Focus is Zetec spec with sports and communication pack so 17 inch alloys and above mentioned Sat nav etc.

Comfort wise, I'd like a little more space

Well if space is a requirement then surely a no brainer... if you wanted leather, more toys and buttons etc then top of range focus with toys would be the option...

Had a 2.2 ST diesel once for a week (I want to call it a STDi - but thats wrong)... was mental.. had all the toys and buttons, was a ford dem one though so specced to the brim!

I have a 2.0 TDI titanium focus on a 12 plate, had a 57 plate before. The new one is superb 50 mpg even around town, plenty of woof, very comfortable, built in sat nav/Bluetooth is brill. Much quieter and better susprmsdion than previous model which was also titanium spec. Great in winter with winter tyres, can't fault the car.
Focus all the way, good size, economical and plenty of torque when needed.

The 1.6 is a grunter, I got it to tow my caravan and it never missed a beat even on a 2 week trip around France.
The downside is the fuel consumption, we only use it local so it rarely gets a good run out. The difference in space is massive compared to the focus and I said to my dealer 'it means the wife is further away and that can only be a good thing' ;)

You will never use 6th gear unless on a motorway as the ratios are massive, it looks good, handles well, good level of equipment, massive space and it has the mondeo breeding which has always been steady and reliable. Servicing is cheap as the stealers will price match so do not take out their service plan pack.

Overall a great motor and a joy to drive.

Focus is for kids or pensioners ;)

got a mondeo 2lt estate zetec petrol ,100% reliable bit juicy round town but can still manage 45mpg on a long run ,and last week towing our caravan trans pennines to yorkshire got 29.5 mpg .TBH i was totally gobsmacked ,would i buy another ,yep total ford convert here .

I'm neither. I've had a succession of 5 Mondeos since 1996. 2x mk1's 2x mk2's and for the last 4yrs a mk3 ST TDCi. I didn't need a diesel anymore and the Mk4 Mondeo was just too big for my needs, so last week I bought myself a 1 year old Focus ST 3. Still plenty of room and comfort and it's quick too. :)

Had a drive in a friend's Mondeo today. Pretty convinced by it I think

Don't get an Avensis for gawd's sake. You'll die of boredom and I've never heard anyone say a good thing about them.
