Rent a TLR?

I've been musing over an idea I've had for a while, let me know what you think. I've got a Yashica Mat TLR (the original one), which introduced me to the world of TLRs and medium format cameras. Decent lens, faster operation than a Rolleicord. It had a bit of a DIY home repair (the link between the shutter button and the shutter mechanics fell apart, had to replace it), but as far as I know it all works. Vulcanite is all gone but it gives it a steampunk look!

Would there be any interest in lending out - with the hirer paying postage both ways, after they had shot a few rolls through it?

(obviously it would only be to trusted members with iTrader feedback - ideally a reasonably experienced 35mm shooter who was intrigued but never tried medium format)

I've borrowed cameras from a couple of folks on the forum, it's an interesting way of trying a camera without forking out, not really renting though. Did you actually see it as a money making exercise or just a general lending scheme like a library

Definitely lending - I don't want to make any money out of it, I just want it to be used and hopefully introduce people to medium format for a nominal sum.

I'm sure folk would be interested, Arthur (Ambermile) was the first to lend me a camera, a little Minox GT and I also borrowed a a little rangefinder from Ujjwal (ujjwaldey8165).

I'm all for it, although I've pretty much tried all the cameras I want to now although I'm sure there's a few quirky cameras still on my list :D

I'm sure there's a lot of folk out there, particularly those new to film cameras who would love the chance to have a play.

When it comes down to postage/return costs and insurance I'd be as well buying one from Ebay to try it.

Lending in your local area is another matter.

If that's the general consensus, that's fair enough - precisely why I put this feeler thread out :)

How about if we had a sticky at the top and anyone who has cameras/lenses that they don't mind lending out lists them in there and people can have a look and see if there's anything they fancy a go at, pay the postage and pop up the photos in another thread?

Pure genius, you're not as green as you're cabbage looking :D

hmm... kit library sticky thread... provided there's no £££ involved other than postage/postal insurance @ cost, and everyone understands the potential for lost kit one way or another, I can't see a problem...

There is also things like collect+ which are cheaper than royal mail, would only be about 4 quid to post a normal sized camera.

This is something I'd certainly be keen to explore; Steven lent me his folder for a few days in Edinburgh, which was very helpful. I do want to try more medium, but I'm not sure if a TLR or something like a Bronica/Hassy, Mamiya 6, even the Fuji 690 you're all raving about, might be for me. I can't really afford to buy more than one!

Would need to think about the logistics etc carefully though.
