rename files before uploading

hi all

i was wondering is it better to give the imaage a unique name rather than say the one out of the camera before you upload to teh web say flicker / facebook etc etc ,

does it make any different for when people search for places or people / objects.

If the site is indexing for Google, and you'd like your images to show up, then rename them. If none of those is true, then theres no point

I've never bothered renaming images I upload, and it does not seem to stop google indexing them. I think Google tends to look at the text near the image on a web page and use that text to index the photos.

I guess adding "alt" text and "caption" text to each image is even better, but I'm often too lazy to fill in these fields when I upload.

My impression is that image names are important for SEO purposes and if you're looking for high ranking on search indexes it's worth doing..as Phil says if not then there's little point
