Removing the Gold Passed label from a camera

Am looking at getting a Nikon FE, many have the gold 'Passed' sticker on the prism which I don't like the look of. Seeing as it will have been on there for 35 years or so, any issues with removing (and what is the best way)?
 
Isopropyl Alcohol should get it off, if that's not strong enough then some Acetone might do it.
 
White spirit is very effective at removing adhesive residues (much more so than isopropyl alcohol, based on practical experience) and is more readily available.

yep that will do it.

dont use acetone that could remove the paint and harm any nearby plasitic
 
CPC.com have a proprietary label removing solvent for about a fiver. Trust me when I say that many label adhesives resist IPA, and I think a glue that has been in place for so long will be very reluctant to shift.
 
But if you remove it how will you know a 30 year old camera passed quality control?
 
Don't be surprised if it’s a different shade of black underneath your stickers- 35 years is a lot of sun bleaching.
 
I've heard this as well. Scary stuff, I'm leaving mine on just in case.
 
Sticky Stuff Remover works well, Amazon sell it as do all sorts of other places.
 
Not sure if I am on my own, but I like the passed stickers on my film SLRs and wouldn't want to remove them at all.
 
I too like the stickers, but each to their own.
 
Ridiculous things those labels - toytown stuff. WD40 has always been the best label remover for me - you've probably got some in your garage already. Just don't spray it over the whole bloody camera - apply it judiciously by dabbing some on, then wait a few minutes for it to soak through the label to the adhesive layer. Then peel with a thumbnail. Wash your thumb afterwards. Not by licking it.
 
I'd probably be plottin some safe way of dangling it over the kettle.....:eek:

which as a first thought doesn't seem remotely feasable, but I hate using chemicals on stickers.
 
What if you need to make a warranty claim - DENIED
 
Those ancient labels are all part of the "patina" of collectable cameras. They become worn with age and add to the appeal.
I have never removed one.
