Removing a stuck filter?

What's the best way to remove a filter that has stuck tight to the lens?
Is there some sort of 'gentle' removing tool?
 
Try wearing some robber gloves they will give you a better grip. you can buy a tool from Jessops etc for removing them, cost a couple of pounds.
 
Cheers guys, can't be seen by the missus wearing rubber gloves though ... could lead to a dish-washing debacle! :D

I had a filter stuck, and someone gave me a great tip, gripping the filter deformed the shape slightly, making it even harder to remove, they suggested pushing the filter straight onto the sidewall of a tyre (making sure the tyre isnt filthy dirty) and while pushing twist the lens, this released the filter firsttime, while everything else I had tried had no luck. I understand that the back of a mouse mat may work aswell.

That sounds like a pretty cool tip....one for the memory banks methinks!

Get a filter wrench they are very cheap, you can put an elastic band around the filter first for a little extra grip if necessary.
 
put a plate in the freezer for 20mins,take it out, then put the lens filter down on it for about 5mins it should contract and easily unscrew :thumbs:
 
How about a little heat - metals expand and contract with temperature changes, so maybe half an hour in the airing cupboard or something - I am not suggesting baking the thing in the oven, but it could be that warming it may help.

that would make both expand, no gain, suppose you could do that then use the cold plate, then the filter would contract

Sometime a lil vibration is all you need. I had one that was "stuck" and I flicked it a couple time with my finger nail and then it came loose. I would not apply heat to a lens, but at times just a lil more grip is all that is required so gloves or a similar may do.
