Hi, I've a canon 600d I'm led to believe if you buy a remote button for it. You can only use it on the 10 second timer setting. Would this be right

Not really, if you use the corded version (RS60E-3) it works as the shutter button does on the camera.

However if you are using the infrared version (RC6) you set your camera to the self timer function but it will trigger as you press the button.
