Hi Guys,
Pretty sure I need to invest in one of these assuming they are a fairly cheap investment.

Is there anything that one does over the other? Any recommendations?
I have a 350D but may upgrade to 5D at some point in the future are they generally all compatible?

thanks
coldy

Coldy, I got a timer remote from ebay. This is a wired remote, that will operate as a standard remote (button push), but also allows for various timed configurations, and numbers of exposures. I think it's great.

Wired releases for the 350D and the 5D have a different connector so you would be looking at having to get rid of the one you buy for the 350D when you upgraded. one looks like a headphone plug and the other has three holes in the plug. The one I had for my 400D which shares the connector with the 350D wouldn't fit a 40D which shares the connector with the 5D

Stick to the cheap options the Canon ones are crazy money and offer nothing above the cheapies!

I got myself a cheapie wired remote for my 40d off ebay for £4 and it does the job

thanks guys,
benefits of a wired one over wireless though?

Wont run out of batteries, will prob be more reliable. But wireless has a long range with no wires all over the place and easier to store in your bag.

I prefer wire one to be honest as when i do take photos I am at the cam anyway i use it for landscapes photo's when cam on the tripod save me using the onboard shutter button to save the little knock on the cam...

I dont like the wireless ones as you have it plug into the cam with a wire to box hanging out.. Then there the remote too to much to handle when out on the hills. When I use the wire remote i just wrap it round the lens while it still plugged in and folder the tripod legs up and hold it on my should to walk to my next spot to take photos. This my easy way
