I was fumbling with my cheapie, then found that even when I did press the shutter thingy, it didn't take any images. 6 goals, not one on remote. I'm sure this has been talked over before, but I can't find it, what is a reasonably priced jobbie that fires when the 'other' camera shoots? I think I need to upgrade.

Thanks for any help :)

How much are you prepared to go to Calumet Pro Series are nice but its down to your budget

As Graham says, 602s are your best bet if you can still get hold of them. For some inane reason when the 603s were designed Yuguno removed the facility to fire a remote shutter from the hotshoe.

Mine came yesterday, going to give them a whirl today.

I've been wondering about the 602's. Would they work independently if there were other remote cameras behind the goal or do you need one of the higher end triggers for that?

I'm not sure that I follow you 100%.

Do you want to trigger separate cameras at different times, o vare you concerned about interference from other trigger units?

How do pros do it at football matches?

Most pros will be using Pocket Wizards and, on the subject of interference you just need to ensure you are all using different channels.

One of the advantages of using poverty wizards is that you are unlikely to suffer cross over interference from everyone else using PWs. You might get some ribbing, but if the kit works, who cares! :)

Got back today to find my remotes on the doormat. Seems to work fine, so will hope Saturdays match doesn't get snowed off and I get a chance to use it ...

What exact one did you get off Amazon? It's a bit overwhelming all the different companies and types etc.

Just having a look at those.

So exactly how do they work?

1) Put camera behind goal mouth (or wherever) with one on top on the same channel.

2) The what?

I'd like one behind the goal but not to take a shot every time I fire my main camera.

I don't think there is a way to do this other than turn off the transmitter when you don't want the other camera to take the shot. My problem with the other cheapie system was that I had to juggle my camera with a 70-200, try to zoom and focus and shoot at the same time as fire the other camera. Got some good shots that way, but also missed a lot. Hope this system will make one less issue for me.

Hi Robin,

You stick you camera behind the goal, say... you plugin in the receiver to that camera and TURN IT ON! I sometimes forget that. Then on my second body(70-200mm), I mount the transmitter. When you press the shutter release on you second body, it triggers the remote camera and occassionally you get shots like this. Bobs your uncle and fanny's your aunt!

Ok thanks Helen.

Just seems a waste of shots if you are shooting action nowhere near the goal with your other camera.

Which ones do you use?

n.b. some cracking images there Helen. So what are you using for the main images and what for the remote shots?

Thanks,

Yeah, but no, but. That's the thing with the remote, you get a lot waste, but it's worth it for the good 'uns.

Set up is...
1D MK3 with 400mm f2.8
1D MK3 with 70-200mm f2.8 - this for goal action with transmitter on
remote is 50D with 17-85mm something.

I know at the big events snappers use foot peddles to trigger the remote camera therefore complete independent of any camera.

.

Been there too! :D

( hence I always checked at half time)

Thanks Helen much appreciated.

Robin, you have to set the remote camera to manual focus, auto focus doesn't work.

Yes I'd read that Carol.

Think I might give it a go with a 17-40/4.0

What focal length do you usually use/gets the whole goal in frame on the 50D?

I use a 10-22 usually at the widest. Not always the best view as it distorts at the edges, but does cover most of the goal. Sort of depends on how much space you have behind the goal as well.

I don't get the whole goal in frame as I find when using a wide angle the action is to far away, so I plum for either one side or the middle.

Having a zoom means I will compose the shot with the background setting in mind, I don't focus on having it at it's widest etc.

It's not always going to get you great shots, I'd say I get a decent one every 7-10 games, just depends what happens where.
