Remote Flash Sanity Check PLEASE!!!

I received my remote Phottox flash trigger this morning - I assumed that it would be a case of just plugging the remote switch into the hotshoe on the camera, then the flash on the receiver and push the shutter. It does not appear to be the case. There is a test button on the transmitter that, when pushed, triggers a red LED on the receiver and that would indicate to me that the trans/rec is working okay.

Any one have any guidance on settings? Flash or (D300) camera settings?

One last thing, when I press the shutter on the camera - the LED on the receiver lights so agin, that would appear to be okay.

Only thing I can think of if the send and recieve lights are working, is that there is a voltage differntial between the flash and the reciever.

Can't think of a setting you'd need to change to influence this offhand...?

A couple of things to check. If the Phottix ones are the same as the other Ebay ones then the hotshoe mount for the flash is a bit hit-or-miss, try wiggling the flash about to see if it fires. Another thing to try is remove the battery cover from the receiver, sometimes there is an interference with the fit which prevents the unit from working.

If it still doesn't work let me know and I'll try and remember what other "adventures" I've had with mine, and how I fixed them

That was kind of my train of thought. I suspect that you buy cheap you should have cheap expectations. I'll email the provider.

A quick something to try- take a couple of small bits or card and wedge them under the flash, making sure not to obstruct the centre pin or contact on the receiver, so that there the flash can't rock back and forward, as even a small bit of movement can prevent correct firing.

The receiver is firmly attached to the flash (the SB600 has a lock switch). I am not sure exactly where to put the card - you mean just to shim it down firmly?

Yeah, the lock doesn't make a lot of difference with these triggers, QC isn't a major part of the manufacturing process

It's back in the box. If I hear from the seller they can have it back for a refund, otherwise if someone else wants to try I'll shove it up. Decided that I'd rather have a working flash rather than a broken one - it is not that important for the risk to the flash.
