Having got the Canon EOS 60D which has a built in wireless transmitter, I find that I cannot use my Nissin speedlite as a wireless remote flash unless I use the pop up flash on camera to activate it. Also I now hear that the Canon Speedlite 430EX II is possibly the only moderately priced (approx £200) speedlite flash I can use to enable me to use as a remote flash. Is this true? If so I now have the dilemma whether to reluctantly spend more cash on a new flash or use a remote flash cable to use my Nissin which would be a lot cheaper. I wondered if any 60D users had the same problem and found any short cuts or a different MO?

You need the pop-up to transmit the light signals that control the remote gun - any gun. It sends out a sequence of master coded flashes (collectively known as the pre-flash) to instruct the slave/s. It all happens so fast you can't visually separate these pre-flashes from the main flash for the exposure which goes out immediately after.

this is very usefull im having the same issue - any idiots guides to using it ? does it work via ttl ?

Yes, E-TTL. The user-manual is a good place to start ;) and after that, try this rather good book by Syl Arena, Speedliter's Handbook - £18 Amazon

i will thanks ! the manual on the 60d does not go in to this - and ive got a cheapy flash with no decent manual ! will get hte book great idea :) thanks

You mean, you asked the same question on another forum even after you'd already received the correct answer on here in post #2?

1. The forum thread I linked to was placed before this one and in my opinion the answers were more concise and detailed and not just a link to an outside source and PDF download.
2. The clue is in the question! I wanted to know if there were any special techniques or methods with the flash remote "wireless" transmitter mode on the 60D.
3. How does ETTL2 work in relation to remote flashes, and especially does the 60D have special attributes when used with the Canon Speedlite 430EX II as opposed to others.

In short the response and advice I received warranted recommendation to other users. If anyone doesn't agree they can just ignore this advice and move on and not question my motives for posting! :nono:

So long as you got the answer
