Yes
It can sometimes be a tough call to tell if something is wrong or offensive. One persons well intentioned light hearted comment can be interpreted as an insult by others.

If you think something might be best not being on the forum then please report it. If a couple of people report the same thing it all helps in making a judgement. Reports are confidential and your comments/thoughts stay private.

It's easy...

I'd just like to add a little note. Although we run the site, we are NOT mind readers. What one person finds offensive, another person finds funny, unless we are told then we cannot second guess what people are thinking. ;) Thanks.

and unfortunately some of us actually have to work and dont get access to the forum during the day so a quick click on the report button, we all get a mail when this happens, and this should at least get someones attention, so it can either be removed temporarily until more of the team can come in and balance the viewpoint, that way we can be sure of a reasonable result. Oh and anybody found messing with the button so we get flooded with emails, will find themselves in the cool off box for a day ;)

Fortunately it hasnt happened often and we hope it stays that way, but if you feel something is a bit close to the mark, report it please :)

Now move along please nothing to see here

A little insight into what happens when you hit the RTM button (hence why we ask for that, rather than either A: Nothing at all, or B: A PM to one individual staff member).

When you fill out the RTM form, an email is sent to ALL staff members (That's 10 of us!). A thread is also automatically created in the staffroom, stating the nature of the Report, a link to the post and thread in question, and a copy of the offensive post.
We can then all automatically pool our thoughts and take swift action if needed.

We dont just sit around scratching our backsides ya know (Well, Ian does, but thats a whole new thread).

It only works with posts. Just report the first post of a thread if need be, and mention in the report its for the whole thread.

So how do I report an abusive thread again? I have met Ian and quite like the guy ( thats a beer you owe me Ian :D )

the report post button is this one:

then we swing into action, like the highly trained crack unit we are

could have loads of fun with that, do you have a record of which users come in with which IP ranges?

LOL Yup.

It records who starts the RTM, any subsequent reports of the same post go into the same threadk, with their name underneath :D

LOL Dont blame me, blame Jelsoft...they made the forum software

just a little bump for this, if there is a post that you dont like REPORT IT! we would rather have a huge pile of reported post notifications to wade through than to find members who either dont come back or complain about us somewhere else. We cant read every post, and we also sometimes dont realise if people might be offended or are upset. Tell Us. its the only way we will know what everyone is thinking.

thank you

Is there any way this important thread can be made permanent No1 on the Home Page and New Threads pages for a while to make sure everyone sees it ...

Just a thought ... ;)

:p

Nope, just keep bumping it like this.

not a very big bump there....

/runs

LOL nice one Tim

Nope, I should be closing the internet, banning you all and taking my ball home......only if it werent true :p

Just tried to report a thread because of spam but it said i don't have the user privileges???

G Dem, if it's the thread I think it is then the msg might be because it had already been dealt...

I reported a dodgy posting a few minutes ago
how long does it take to remove it?

Me too Mike, same one I guess. It'll be gone in no time and I am certain a bannig will also ensue.
