Remember them

Some truly wonderful photos there. :smilenod:

very good photos! good find

Aaaaarghhh!!! :censored: Puke! :banghead: :hissyfit:

I really hate this :censored: - bloody yanks at it again - honestly, you'd think they were the only ones out in Iraq or Afghanistan, the way they carry on.:suspect1:

And God knows who took thos photos - the only US military phots I saw in Iraq didn't know one end of the lens from the other.

Have to say I thought along the same lines as Arkady when I saw the pictures.

There are some very good pictures there....but there is just something about the whole thing presented like that - looks like a PR exercise.

Seen it before, it's another of those fox-news'esque uber patriotic things. I have a number of American friends who think this kind of stuff is pap too so I won't blame all yanks for it. As Robert says, some good shots but hijacked to suit someones agenda.

Looking at the photos from a purely artistic level I find some of them very good indeed. The sentiments or who took the photos I can easily ignore and appreciate each shot for how it was taken and the quality in the end result.

WRT the sentiment, I agree with you three, it's corny / cheesy at its worst. That's not to detract from the fact that these men and women are leaving their families behind etc, it's just way too American and cheesy.

Some of the shots though are good, particularly the silhouettes.

So were the shots in Signal and Volkischer Beobachter...

You cannot seperate the politics from the imagery in stuff like this.

It's just plain wrong to portray these people as being on some kind of Holy Crusade (and never mind all the horrifying connotations that word has for the Arab world).
It's a job. They volunteered. If they don't like it, they can leave. End of story.

In the words of the famous Bender: "Bite my shiny metal ass!!!"
