so as the title would suggest i am some what a noob to photography, the best way to learn i think is just to get out there and do it or, ask you guys.

So what exactly is the relationship between ISO, Shutter, And Aperture?

I understand the affects of Shutter speeds, White balance, Aperture, but i am a bit fuzzy on what exactly ISO does?

any help??:)

iso is a throw back to film days..the higher the iso the faster the said film was allowing you to set faster shutter speeds and faster aperture's in low light...

so say if you set the iso to 400 iso it would allow you to say set the aperture to f8 and still have a fairly fast shutter speed...the only thing is the faster the iso the more noise(or grain) you have

Yes...

And, in general, a switch from ISO 100 to ISO 200 means you can go one f/stop faster while holding shutter speed constant, or you can hold f/stop constant and increase shutter speed one setting. If you then go to ISO 400, you can again adjust f/stop and/or shutter speed to achieve the same exposure.

Adjusting ISO allows you to hold shutter speed fast enough to avoid camera shake while adjusting your depth of focus to meet your artistic needs, and so forth.

They are all set out in stops and each stop lets in twice as much light or half as much light depending on which way you go. That is their relationship with each other. Using one to compensate for the other is the way to get the image the way you want it. I would get a good basic book if you are a total noob to photography just to get the basic info under your belt and then you won't look back.

thanks guys that explianed alot, cheers for the link, have been having a wee read about on the net and found a good few stuff

I always think of it like a triangle: the angles all have to add up to 180˚ and when you change one, the others have to compensate.

Don't think of it like a love triangle though. That would be silly :)
