Gordon Brown is set to drop VAT and I'll save 2p on a loaf of bread. So all my money problems will be solved.

:thinking::thinking::thinking:

woop-di-doo! Yet another headline grabber that's neither going to solve the economic crisis, nor make Gordon Brown popular.

That's funny, I'm sure he chopped the gap in opinion polls on the Torries by 50% over the past 4 months. That's not bad going IMO. I'd rather have him in charge in the current situation that David Cameron or anyone else for that mater. I'm a fan of Gordon Brown :D

So you a fan of the guy who sold our gold at a cut down price and lost the UK billions.

The man who bought shares in the banks at £1.30 on the same day the stock exchange were selling them for 90p

The man who EVERY year has had to come back to parliament and admit he added up wrong and we needed to borrow more money

The man who say he'll simulate the economy now with a tax cut and then just as we are getting back on our feet will kill it off again with a massive tax raise to get the money + interest back.

I want to strangle him every time he opens his mouth. Though I'm fairly certain Cameron is 90% BS as well. God help this country.

I tend not to live in the past ;) I don't know if what you've said is true so I can't comment, but in terms of the future, I'd put my trust into Brown over anyone.

I tell you what, mate.
You save up all those pennies that you'll save from 2.5% off your petrol, clothes, cameras etc and put them in your piggy bank and, one year later, give them to some charity like "Save The Children".
Then maybe the "world will rejoice".

Is that based on track record or because he's Scottish:nuts:

I've never voted Labour in my life because all they ever seem to do is tax you more and more to sort their cockups out.

A guy at one of the companies I work for was offered overtime but turned it down because it'll affect his tax credits, god forbid he should actually work to support his kids but then again why should he when the state will do it for him.

Make the lazy gets work for their benefits and stop giving houses and money to teenagers as soon as they get pregnant, let the parents bear the responsibility.

**** it where do I apply for the job:D

Tories are going the right way I think - cutting taxes and increasing the already massive spending is all going to end in tears (for us, we've got to pay it all back) brown wll just swan off into some mega paid job no doubt...
I think average joe is being placated by falling petrol prices and tax cuts, he is still a walking disaster imho

Oh I'm afraid I will be saving all those pennies for when VAT goes up 4% to claw back all the money Brown is borrowing.

So whiteflyer, are you moving to Switzerland soon?

So whiteflyer, are you moving to Switzerland soon?

I'd get out of Britain if I could without a doubt, especially as we are being run by a man with the financial brains of a five year old.

10th October 2006
Chancellor Gordon Brown has said the UK will give $15bn (£8.5bn) in overseas aid for education in Africa and Asia.

The 10-year funding plan is part of the pledge by the world's richest nations to help every African child have access to a primary school by 2015.

29 October 2008
Grants for students in England starting university next year will be cut because the government underestimated how many would be eligible for support.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills has admitted it has a funding shortfall of £200m

Well done Gordon for not helping the people of UK the country your supposed to be the Prime Minister of

brown is a joke as are all of the current mp's for god sake get a real person in charge of our countries finances a regular joe who has had to work hard all his or her life someone who knows the real meaning of a £ not someone who gets their way paved for them im sure if brown was on the average wage and had to pay all his own bills all our taxes would fall and we would pull out of any other spending ie joining the eu as that was a massive mistake just so they could make most of our decisions for us and we pay them billions of pounds a year to do it

No one is going to read this until you start using sentences.

I think I'll step out of this now, I used up all my argumentative energy last night ;) You guys just keep moaning and asking for your life handed to you on a silver plate.

Hang on a f-ing minute who's life has been hand to them on a silver plate.

My mother died when I was 10 and my brother was 12, my father single handedly brought us both up while still working and with out massive benefit from the government.

I left school at 16 and got an apprenticeship as a centre lathe turner, and worked from then (1976) until made redundant in 1999 and got another job within 2 weeks at £3000 a year less.

I have no debts because I live within my means, I own my car outright and now have a very small mortgage, because I have done without to get the amount I owe down. As a single person I have done this alone.
I pay the mortgage
I pay the gas bill
I pay the electric bill
I pay council tax
I pay the phone bill
I pay for EVERYTHING out of my single salary
I work the 2 till 10 shift 5 days a week with a gross salary of £16895.40.

I DO NOT get tax credit or child benefits, but I'm sick to the back teeth of this labour government's take take take, so it can give money to girls who just can't keep their leg shut, and other who can't get off the lazy backside.

DON'T EVER say my life has been handed to me on a silver plate

Who said anything about you? It was a general statement not aimed at anyone in particular. But thanks for your life story. Lets not get personal eh?

You know, reading your last post, I had a lot of respect for you. Until this...

Way to generalize.

Might I add, that Gordon Brown also just happened to over see the biggest growth this country has ever seen... giving people like you, and I and a lot of other people much needed avenues of income.

Of course you have a right to complain, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, as am I. But when your argument consists purely of ranting and no actual facts or links to sources then what do you expect? If anything this thread is pure comedy.

To be honest, all politicians are walking disasters.

They are people who would seemingly fail to get jobs in the real world.

None of them are capable of running a multi-billion pound economy.

Most aren't capable of running your local Tesco (no offence to Tesco managers).

Thanks for posting links. Interesting reading. I didn't know about the bullion thing. But with regards to helping poor children in Africa and Asia is that really a bad thing? The longer Africa suffers from poorer education the longer the richer countries of the world will have to support them. By improving the education in the poorer countries of the world we're helping them make a difference with their futures and hopefully those countries will become prosperous.

Now, you posted that article to make a contrast between the other article about student grants being cut... but what you didn't mention was that poorer students would not be affected by those grant change proposals.

I have never voted Labour and always vote conservative, but I must say the person who had spoken the most scene on the economy for months has been Vince Cable of the Liberals.

If Brown really does want to help the UK with cross party support, he should get his head out of the sand and listen to what Cable has to say.

In fact if I was Cameron I'd be doing all I could to get Vince Cable to defect, or promise a multi party government with Vince as Chancellor.

There is no harm in helping other people in the world, but I think it has been stupid that Labour have been borrowing money to give to other nations.

If we had a surplus things would be different but we are nearly £100 billion in debt, and just can't afford to give money away. Also a lot of experts have been saying that if you really want to help Africa then stop helping Africa. These countries need some sort of incentive to help themselves and not to rely on foreign aid.

Labour say poorer students would not be affected, but they did say the 10p tax rate cut would not effect many people, just another financial affair in which Brown got his figures completely wrong.

We're playing nice now Marcel :) We're back on topic.

I was born in June of that year !! Mighty fine year it was too....

I thought you deserved a clap for that. Seriously - I agree with you.

I struggle to decide which way to vote and TBH i did not vote in the last elections as i felt that nobody offered a realistic approach to running the country.

As i did not vote then i can not moan.

But one thing to think over. Why did some countries in the world foresee the economic slowdown and pool resources in the last 5 years to clearing the national debt?

Australia is one example and now has the means to make realistic tax cuts which do not require national borrowing.

Gordon Brown also happens to be the person who has caused the loss of pensions for many people in this country by allowing (recommending) pension holidays to companies who still took the money from employees but spent it rather than investing it, thus depriving them of their pension when they went bust!

Er, that's quite wrong.
A pension holiday means the company didn't contribute.
They can't spend the employee contribution ..... at least not since Robert Maxwell's time.
