Boy am I finding this difficult to get started with - I find their application and web sites complicated even before I start

I bought the Pro version a few weeks ago - £70 I think - Mac Version 1.9.5 and downloaded it from their web site.
Opened the app and message came up you need Mono Run time click here - version 3.4.0 downloaded ….. Looked at printing out the chart … but it is recommended best done on an ink jet printer - so I waited a few weeks until I got back to France.. only laser in UK
Got back to France, printed out the chart, opened up the app and message said - there is an updated version 1.9.6 ………. so I downloaded that - tried to Run it and message came up "you have the incorrect Mono Run Time version" you need 2.10.9 NOT 3.4.0 ……. presumably 2.10.9 is an earlier version for a later version of the software.

I find their registration procedure complicated

I only bought the app to check my long primes - 300mm etc - but 300mm needs 7.5m distance camera to chart so presumably this need to be done outside - so I need to still their app on my laptop - another update gone …….. what kind of light should the tests be performed under - normal daylight outside?

I need advice and hints?

help

Wait till you get to the stage where you think it's going well and then it tells you it can't complete the tests

Maybe different now but a complete waste of time when I tried with my D3S bodies.

You want even/bright light for maximum target contrast. I think you are supposed to use 15m (50x) for 300mm according to the directions? I would use "average usage distance" instead...

As I said in another thread, good luck. I think you're going to need it. I will be interested to hear if it works better now with long lenses than it did a year ago.

It seems as though they recommend x25 for the 300mm now - x50 for 50mm and under and x20 for over 300mm

If you speak to Rich you'll find he's both very amenable and very helpful if you have issues.

FWIW I use a modelling light to ensure even target illumination, and that it won't change through the test.

I'll try to find "Rich"

My first issue is: I downloaded FoCal 1.9.5 and it said I needed Mono Runtime 3.4.0 to work …… I downloaded 3.4.0 ……. not sure why or what it is but I downloaded it
When I tried to use FoCal 1.9.5 a message came up and said this is not the latest version, (I only bought it 3 weeks ago!), 1.9.6 is the latest version, so naturally I downloaded 1.9.6
Clicked on the icon to use it, FoCal 1.9.6, and a message came up saying that it would not run on Mono Run Time 3.4.0 and would only run on an earlier version of Mono Run Time, v 2.10.9

If this is true why would you issue an upgrade to your app to run on an earlier version on Mono Run Time ……. so now I need to download Mono Run Time v 2.10.9 …….???

I am not usually happy about downloading unnecessary programs to my hard drive

Second issue is: The user license seems complex …….. it says you only have 15 "changes" - not sure what these are and if downloading an upgrade two weeks after you bought the product is a change.

and this is before I have started trying to use the product

I could have bought the easy to set up ruler and chart for half the price and I would have been able to check all my lenses in the time that it has taken me to download this and that and amend my Licence etc., to add another body.

No, it's not. The license allows you to use the software with a maximum of five cameras. Each camera body has to be registered with the license management system. If you want to de-register one of the five bodies and replace it with another body, that counts as one change or 'license update'. You can have 15 license updates - any more than that and you'll have to contact Reikan and get them to reset the license management system.

That's true - I had an email from Rich explaining

If you have five bodies register them all together then you have 15 updates left
If you register them one by one each counts as an update so if you register five singularly you only have 11 updates left

If you are buying this read as much as you can before committing - there is a lot of info you needs to absorb before you start and certainly you want to make sure any adjustments made are valid

Still to get started - I have to uninstall Mono Run Time version 3.4.0 and replace it with Mono Run Time version 2.10.9, then download the latest update

I was interested in buying this, but it does sound complex... perhaps I won't bother

Cheers
