Hi,

Not long ago I asked a question about fill-in flash when faced with strong sunlight resulting in harsh shadows....a reflector kit was recommended. However, I'm struggling to think how I can position a reflector and keep it in place....would you use a tripod (which I dont have), or a reflector stand?

Will.

There is a specific stand for a reflector that will hold it in place for you once you have set it up, a little like a tripod with an extended bar for the reflector. Whatever make you have, search that site and you should find it.

I would like to get reflectors, is there a good size to get? I want one for portraits, outdoors or to use natural light indoors and they seem to come in a range of sizes, just not sure where to start.

And what colour is good, or should I get several/multi?

I still haven't got mine yet but i believe an ok size for head and shoulder portraits is around 60cm (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Re the colours, I'm going to go for a 5 in 1 as I'll probably want different effects in the long run. Gold gives a nice warming reflection, silver gives a strong reflection, white gives slightly soft, etc. Again if I am wrong please can someone correct me :)

Hope this helps

Will :)

Thanks Will. Yes a 5 in 1 sounds like a good idea, gives several options. I'll try to take a look at a 60cm one.

I went for the 43" 5 in 1 from 7 day shop. On the basis that the shoot through option would also offer me a larger light source until I get a brolly or the like. And would also work better if I can't get in quite as close for fuller shots.
