Reflector Help

Provided you've the room to use it go for the larger one. Better too big than too small.

My Lastolite is white and silver , but then I don't use it for portraits, just for interior fill in, but I would suggest the soft sun might be the best option. Silver I think would give a too hard an effect the Gold is,to my way of thinking way to warm, unless you do the portraits for CSI Miami
 
I've got a 43" reflector - bought off Ebay for about £ 12 delivered. Its one of the 5 in one type with a silver surface / gold surface / white / black and diffuser.

The covering has a zip and you just turn it inside out for the various configurations
 
I more or less agree that bigger is better, but sometimes you need a small one, for example held by the subject under the chin. Mind you, a sheet of A4 white paper is perfect for that.

Silver is the most efficient in terms of reflecting light but can be a bit harsh. The various tints can all be useful but my personal choice, if I could only have one, would be to have silver/white

Like this one? Very useful and you can't go wrong for the money.
 
I would go for white and gold for the other side, as a warm bounce fill often works well.
For portraits I would go for the 42” although it can be difficult if used exterior in a wind. The 32” would be a good compromise if you plan using it a lot exterior. I wouldn’t bother with the smaller ones. Nip down your local pound shop and buy a car windscreen sunshade. You want one that come with a plain white on one side and silver on the other. I even found one that is white and gold. They fold up to a small size and you can clip ‘em together if need be.

Yep - just like that.

I've not bothered with smaller ones -either use the bigger one, or somethink like white paper / cardboard / tin foil or polystyrene sheet will make quite a servicable temporary reflector
