Hi All,

I'm trying to photograph some objects with a reflection below them. I have a sheet of glass on some white paper but don't seem to be able to get the reflective effect I want. Anyone got any tips on how best to light it to get a decent reflection.

Am I better using a flash gun or a stand lamp or something else completely? Any tips greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 
The strength of the reflection depends on the angle of the light combined with the height of the camera.

The type of light makes no difference
 
Not sure how much reflection you are looking for.

This was done with glass over black card.

Go down to your local tile shop any buy a few tiles of different colours.
Black ones are nice for reflections
 
Craig's right about the tiles, i used a shiny black tile for this shot. :)

Wow! Right, looks like I'm off to the tile merchants this weekend then!
 
Forget the tiles, a piece of glass is all you need, just change whatever is underneath it for endless variations.
 
That depends on what reflection you want and how detailed the shot. A piece of glass with a colour under it will always have a slightly different reflection than a tile because of the angles.

If you look at the watch shot the reflection sits deeper than the one with the tile where the reflection goes right up to the subject.
