if i'm taking a photo of a shop window and i dont want a reflection of myself in the window (or at least i want to minimise it) whats the best way to do it?

That aside, often changing your angle so that you're not head-on can work. It's not always practical, but sometimes does the trick. Last night I was filming at an Art gallery and had the same problem, as a result I had to shoot everything from bizarre angles!
Have to agree with the above. Polarisers only work from 45-90 degrees to the light source, so if you're looking straight at it (head on) the effects may be limited.
Well if you take a photo of a shop like Budgens or a shop like that you won't see yourself in the picture because they have got white panels on there windows
