Hi,

I have just been into my local Jessops today and noticed that they had a brand new Sigma 50-500mm NAF for £799, a reduction of £300 on their usual price. Asked the manager if that was the only one he had in stock & he comfirmed it was but said he could get more in in that fit or other fits. When I asked him why it was so cheap he said "Sigma won't supply us anymore so we clearing out". When I started to dig a bit more he changed his story to "Tamron is now our preferred supplier so we are stopping dealing with Sigma". Lens does not show up on Jessops site so imagine that these are being cleared through selected shops.

Very tempted to go back & buy it...

That is very much what I suspected Graham - money getting tight at Jessops, suppliers getting concerned !

Looks like a lot of Sigma lenses are 28 day delivery only now?

It's all getting a bit worrying, we really don't want to be loosing Jessops. Yes they get a lot of stick at times but we need shops that you can actually go into and see the kit. I am about to spend about £3200 on a D700 and a couple of lenses. I could probably save a few pounds on the internet but I will probably end up at Jessops or Calumet (especially if they will match the price or at least get close). You would think that Nikon and Canon would give them a discount as it gets them into the high street. I know manufacturers that do such things.

I think Canon do give them a silly discount. My local camera shop said that Jessops had Canon DSLR bodies for sale cheaper than he could buy them trade despite Canon's claims of fair trading prices. Jessops could have been loss leading I guess...

I can't believe how much they have increased in cost over the past year or so!

I went in to a camera shop on Friday to ask about a Sigma lens & was surprised to find they had almost none in. They said they've stopped stocking Sigmas (although they can order them) as the price has gone up so much, people are simply buying Canon / Nikon etc versions instead. The selling point of the Sigmas were the cheaper price.

As it happens, the lens I was considering doesn't have a Canon equivalent, but hey ho...

I got my Bigma in March 08 for £650 from somewhere-can't remember where though. I suppose everyone gets the Bigmos now as it's got OS. The Bigma is fantastic though. :)

sounds like credit issues.... if the 1st comment was right.

I was in the local branch a couple of weks ago enquiring about sony equipment, the guy there was not shy in advertising the idea that Jessops is seriously in trouble...watch this space i think
