RedTele's 2011 Photo 52 - Week 12 and 13 added

Term is over!! But now I have serious catching up to do with my photo 52! I will try come up with something decent. Watch this space... :D
 
Out of order, but I just had to do this because of this unique opportunity I had.

Week 10 - Trio


Canon 70-200mm x3!!! by Kaz Shiomitsu, on Flickr

A trio of 70-200mm L Lenses :D I'm in the process of upgrading from the f/4 one (at the back) and ended up with two 2.8 ones :lol:. Only keeping the IS one at the front.

Canon 40D, Sigma 30mm at F/5.6, lit with a desktop lamp behind the lenses and another one diagonally in front.

Nice image. The angle you've chosen adds interest/drama. Your ligthig is pretty good too, but some detail is lost to reflections. Personally I would have had a little more DOF to get the whole of the nearest lens in focus.

Looking forward to the rest of your 52.

Week 8: Chaos

I know it's wrong order again but I'm just doing things as I get ideas :P

First time doing something like this. The pattern of the rippling and the way light reflects off various feature looked chaotic and cool.

I was messing around the kitchen to see what I could get... Olive oil spread on chopping board, then a dollop of soy sauce added to create a lump, onto which I dripped some more soy sauce when I took this photo. Flash bounced off another chopping board on the right. Canon 50mm f/1.8 with Raynox 150 attached.

Week 9: Finish

Perfect beautiful sunset to finish off a glorious day we've had in Leeds yesterday. I tried to capture it as best as I could.

Hiya Kaz,

Just noticed I have some catching up to do on your last few posts:

Week 10: Wow those look like some might powerful lenses. I don't know much about equipment (but I suppose in time I will do), still getting my head around photography techniques :lol: I like the composition and DOF in this photo, just not sure about the light reflection on the first lens though. Otherwise a great shot and from an angle that accentuates the size of the lenses. I'd be well happy to own a trio like that.

Week 8: Wow that is amazing! I love the colours, and even more so the abstract art it is. I would have never guessed what you used to create it, so thanks for the explanation. I think I have to spend some time in my kitchen one day soon and see what I can produce (besides cooking :lol:).

Week 9: Stunning sunset photo! Indeed the sunset last night was awesome, I was in a graveyard taking photos of it :D The composition is spot on and the clouds and sunlight were definitely in your favour.

Well done on all three photos :clap:

Week 10: Definitely a case of the equipment being better than the photographer :lol: I started doing a lot of sports photography for a university newspaper and my f4 wasn't cutting it so I upgraded. Only temporarily owning the trio though, can't afford to keep them.

Week 8: Thanks for your compliment. I had some fun doing the shot. A lot could be improved so I'd love to have a go at something similar again.

Week 9: I hope we get many more days like that. I'd love to try bracketing images together next time.
 
OK here we go this time I did something a bit different. Well the subject isn't too original but hear me out.

Week 11: Knowledge


Trinity Hall College - Jerwood Library (ver1) by Kaz Shiomitsu, on Flickr

Library; a source of knowledge. I took this photo of Jerwood Library, Trinity Hall College, Cambridge University while I was on a punt boat on River Cam. I love the angular design of the architecture and I think I managed to accentuate it with the angle of the shot. It was a lovely sunny day with clear plain blue sky so I thought I'd try something new in post processing and decided to do a pop art print style image with very strong colours and lines and I quite like the end result. What do you think?

Personally I don't get your 'chaos' shot, I think it's a bit abstract for my tastes and I'm struggling to tell what I'm looking at. Sorry.

The geometry of the architecture in your knowledge picture is great. I quite like your 'pop art' take on the PP, it's the kind of thing you see in picture shops that sell canvases. The colour of the sky is fantastic like your 'finish' pic, nice one.

Thank you, no need to apologise. I realise it's a bit abstract and it leaves a lot to be desired technically.

Canvases and prints were exactly the effect I was after. Glad you liked it :)
 
Week 12 - Moderation

Just got back from a long weekend in London. Friday happened to coincide with the Spending Cuts Protest where 300,000 people from all over the UK descended into London to show their anger at the government budget plans. The photo was taken at Picadilly Circus, about 2pm. No violence yet and the protesters generally behaving in civilized manner. Quietly moderating the whole scene were numerous police officers, whom no doubt must have been feeling angry at the government themselves...
 
Hiya Kaz, just looked back and noticed I had missed your knowledge shot, I have to say I like the processed version, certainly makes it stand out.

I think your Moderation photo is great, the black and white conversion works very well indeed. I also like the way you have framed it with the police officer and everyone else behind. :thumbs:
 
Hiya Kaz,

Love your photo of the event in London, a great pic to capture the mood. The mono conversion works well too (especially as the day-glow yellow jackets the cops were wearing are so bright) the b&w tones it down nicely.

I think you are right about the feeling the cops had, my friend kept asking them if they didn't want to join us :lol:

Week 13 Empty

Taken hint from drodd's empty theme (empty London during protest), I think this photo also fits the theme. The normally tourist-packed square near the Tower Bridge, with this interesting sculpture of a leaning pebble was almost totally devoid of people, hence an empty square.

Again, I wanted to try a new processing technique. Decided to go for a sci-fi surreal look so I downloaded a tonecurve for Lightroom that's not natively possible to apply. Then applied a couple graduated ND filter to further darken the sky. I warmed the WB considerably and added a slight pink tint.

Hiya Kaz,

Yep I like that for this theme, especially as I can vouch for how devoid certain areas of London were that day :D

The different processing gives it an almost 'out of space' feel, which I like, especially considering the dull sky one had to contend with on the day.

Firstly apologies for not commenting on your pictures sooner... I've been a real slack ass at keeping up with other peoples 52's as well as my own!

This is actually the first time i've seen yours and have to say the open, hard and moderation shots really are first class! Especially the HARD one!

Great work on all your shots... I think the empty one would have been better with a wider angle ... and really was not blown away by the trio shot... you can do a lot better as some of your shots show!

Look forward to seeing the rest of your shots!
