Trying to choose a tripod and cant decide between the 190 and 055 Manfrottos. Another alternative would be the Redsnapper legs with the Manfrotto 804 head (a have a manfrotto monopod and it seems sense to get a tripod with the same QR Plate)

Any thoughts on which way to go, thers little in any of the choices costwise...

I've just recently acquired a red snapper 283 tripod that compares favourably with my 055. My impression is that the 283 is slightly smaller dia tube and a smaller cast head and better locking mechanisms. Overall the 283 is not quite as beefy as the 055. I've fitted both with a manfrotto 128RC. They weigh in at 2.7kg and 4kg respectively (incl heads).

I can't comment on the Redsnapper, but Manfrotto-wise it depends what you are intending to do with the tripod. The 055 is the sturdier of the two, but it is also a lot heavier, making it a bit of a pest to lug about all day.

I've got the Redsnapper legs and a manfrotto head, to me it seems a pretty good set up, although I've not been able to compare it with anything else.

I went for the Manfrotto head as my Dad has one too so we don't need to swap tripod plates if we want to share gear.

Yes same here, I already have a Manfrotto monopod with QR plate. Have ordered the 804 head at £46 delivered, and am awaiting Joe to get the redsnapper heads in so I can order (Redsnapper head will be put on an older tripod that has a damaged head.)
