Hi TP members could you please give me a verdict on redsnapper tripods as i know very little aboat them. I am thinking in buying a Manfrotto 190 knowing that they have a good reputation, i like the ball and socket heads and it would have to carry the weight of a canon 40d  so if enyone has got one please could you let me know many thanks.

Couldnt have come at a better time as I too am looking for a new ball & socket head.

I use one with a 400D with battery grip, largest lens i have is the 70-200L and i have had no problems at all.

The redsnapper is a very good tripod. I have had both this and a frotto 190

THe redsnapper is higher than the manfrotto by a reasonable amount - and I found it much more stable due to the extra height/spread on the legs.

The manfrotto has flick lock legs wheras the redsnapper is twist lock. This just means that the manfrotto is quicker to put up and drop down.

The Manfrotto has the horixontal centre column wheras the redsnapper comes with a second short column that allows for really low angle shots (If you get the redsnapper Joe can supply column parts so youy can have two complete column assemblies at a very reasonable price)

Overall, I would choose the redsnapper unless you want a tripod that goes up and down quickly. That is the only thing the frotto has over redsnapper that is of real world use IMO.

With regard to heads - the redsnapper ballhead gets very good reviews, although the manfrotto 486 or 488 are also really good. All will take a 40D with ease

Thanks for your reply seems the redsnapper has a good review.

I have the monopod an dmini ball head, i found that the quick release will not click into place very easily now and have to really push it to make it click in. That is with my Sigma Tripod mount on the lens, not sure if it does it on my other canon one's though as not tested them.

Also the ball head squeeks and jerks slightly, maybe that is because i have 3.6kg on it, i dont honestly know.

I've been using the redsnapper tripod which I bought from RichardtheSane, and it is a very good tripod. I use it with a Manfrotto ballhead.

i use a redsnapper t-283 tripod and ball head which i brought a few wks ago and its absolutley amazing, give joe a buzz and see what he can do for you, tp members get a 10% discount too, i have a 400d with grip and sigma 150-500 and the tripod and ball head hold it no probs at all:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
