Redsnapper tripods

I have the 243 and it is a very good solid tripod. comes with a nice carry case with excellent strap. The head is not the best in the world but it does the job.

i got one just before my paris trip and i love it. seems really strong not that heavy didnt notice it when walking around. for not alot of money you get alot of tripod

I have the RS283 & RSH24 and they are very good value for money. Came with a very nice padded bag as well. Recommended.

I'v got the 284, great tripod for the money although I have upgraded the head, the legs are robust and get nice and low when you use the smaller center section.
And as you mentioned Joe at Redsnapper is active on here and is very helpful.

I'm trying to decide between the RST-283 and RSF-284 myself with an RSH-61 ball head.

I can see that the 283 is a 3 section tripod and the 284 a 4 piece. But what does that mean?

From the reviews i've read they're clearly good tripods but i'm trying to decide between the two.

Also, is the head i'm looking at any good?

Great tripod if you don't do seascapes or have it in saltwater/sand for the twist grips. From my own experience it was a pain to clean after a session down the beach and then one of the legs was getting really slack and no matter how tight I tightened it, it went back to being slack, then a section would not come down so I placed my foot across 2 of the legs to pullout the stuck leg and the stuck one snapped clean off at the top - don't know if the saltwater makes it weak? but it wasn't a very hard pull on the leg to say the least.

The sections refer to the number of sections in the legs. A tripod with 4 sections (3 joints) will usually collapse to a shorter length than a 3 section (2 joints) tripod. However as the number of sections increase the diameter of the lowest part decreases, so using it fully extended makes it less stable than the 3 section version of that tripod. How much of a real world effect this will have is debatable though and will depend on usage.

After deliberating for a while and reading numerous reviews I've decided to get a 4 section tripod as that suits my needs better.
