Wondered if anybody had seen this camera/phone in their online travels?

Wasn't familiar with RED before I started searching for a decent smartphone camera (something with a big sensor). It seems they're a relatively young (10yrs) cinema camera manufacturer with a big range of modular cameras.

Had always thought of getting hold of a Panasonic CM1, but they're generally unavailable. Glad to see this crop up (no pun intended)!

I'm excited about the idea of having a proper sensor, perhaps even an aperture ring in a phone. I'm crap at always having the camera on me, but like most, I always have the mobile on me. Like the idea of a modular camera system built around a smartphone. Apparently it'll have full size SD cards and swappable batteries that can be used. Missing a viewfinder though, unless they have a module for that in future.

Scant information available at present - apart from a pre-order page without really telling you what it is. They're already late on delivering the prototype - was supposed to be 30-45days away from start of August.

I was thinking the phone would need some grunt to run the modular hardware, to justify the price and to be used with the rest of their non-smartphone kit. Here's hoping anyway, I can see one of those skinny lenses staying put on the phone, looks pocketable still!

Did you find anything out that wasn't in the links I posted?

What seems ridiculous? the cine system or the proposed phone?

Will be interesting to see if anything worth considering is delivered - I think they already said there won't be accessories or modules on release. Disappointing in itself.
 
Has there been any more actual images/real world users of the phone yet? If there’s still only that one single render since it was announced it’s looking a little like snake oil.
 
The fact that the only details about the phone is a pre-order page suggests that the priority is taking money off people happy to give it away with no guarantee of anything in return. I’m not suggesting Red are scamming people, more that they’re promising a lot without actually showing anything real.

There are two non functional prototypes you can see in the video - one has the external modular lens mounted, the other is the plain handset.

There is a functional screen prototype too but they're claiming you can't see the effect on a conventional 2D screen so they're just showing the youtuber's reaction to it.

Yeah that's a concern on their user forums. Lots of 'fanboys' appewr to have ordered regardless as it's apparently more cost effective than the add on screens on their cine cameras and is being touted as a replacement for one of those because they've confirmed it will be compatible.
