Red dot sight...

I have seen these used once or twice and (years ago) saw a number of posts about them - with mixed results. Personally I have only used them on rifles and they didn't work for me.

This is just my opinion, but I would prefer to see that my camera is focusing on the subject rather than looking through another optic that does not show me what the camera sees. I am sure they can work - but I think the viewfinder is a better option, just my thoughts.

They're my preferred sight for air pistol but that's only out to 30 yards.
Depending on the design, they can suffer from parallax error so what you're aiming at may not be what the lens sees if your eye is not precisely centred.

How did you make it?
Do you use it much?

Dot sight bought from Amazon.
The mount for the hot-shoe came from an old flash gun.
The dot site is attached to the mount via an aluminium 'V' rail I made.
Although I do believe such mounts are now available to buy.

I've never used it :) although it was a very enjoyable exercise.

I did think about one for mirrorless use , but it doesn’t take into account the actual focus lock on the bird or target which you need before firing the shutter

I had one for my olympus 4/3 when using the 300mm with the em1. It did work quite well but I found it somewhat counter intuitive.
What finished it for me was having to set up the body on a tripod to calibrate it to the sight before each use. Just couldn't be bothered in the end!

I don’t calibrate on a tripod. I take a shot and then move the focus point to where I focussed.
