Red dot on footage

This isnt really a photography question, but it might be the same kind of situation.

I have a Canon XL1 digital video camera, and I seem to be getting a red dot on the footage, I can see it after I capture it.

If this was happening on a stills camera what would the answer be?

when you say red dot, are you referring to a single pixel??? I suspect not as a single pixel on video would be almost inperceivable.

The other possibility is of course some sort of reflection of one of your camera lights, possibly the red light which is illuminated when recording?

What are you playing it back on?

Could be a graphics problem on a pc display or could be a pixel problem on the sensor.

its a group of pixels, like noise, always in the same place and on the Computer and TV.

Try a head cleaner - I had this with my XM1 and after running a tape cleaner through it all was well.
