Red Bull Stratos

So you think you've taken an impressive snap :D

Indeed, an incredible human achievement. I watched it all the way through and I found myself holding my breath as he got himself into position for the jump itself. I did "panic" when he started spinning around at one time, was that meant to happen?

MUCH more watchable than the vile americanised claptrap that is the X Fixtor.

I genuinely believe that things like the x-factor contribute to the increasing stupidity of the general public. There is no desire to learn, to discover...

Back to Red Bull Stratos. It was awe-inspiring.

I haven't heard/seen if they've confirmed the speed yet....did he do it?

Awesome stuff....how would you top that!
Just watched the Q&A session. 833 mph Mach 1.24:thumbs:
He also achieved longest freefall too.

Thats strange because on the video that I watched it said
terminal velocity 729mph
and he pulled the chute at 4:19 and the previous record was 4:30

press conference was pretty good, they gave provisional results for the the following

freefall start altitude 128,100ft
freefall length in metres - forgot that one!
Freefall Vmax - 833.9mph Mach 1.24

(those figures are from memory so might be slightly innacurate)#

some interesting stuff came out

when stood on the edge baumgartners words were "sometimes you have to go up really high to understand how small you are"

i also liked Joseph kittingers comment of "id like to give a big one fingered salute to all those who thought he was going to fall to bits at those speeds"

we were discussing this earlier. i can only think that the previous jump was at a lower altitude so didnt build as much speed, hence the shorter duration.

Must be the data from his flight suit giving accurate info instead of flight control data that's normally wrong.

they were estimated speeds

he has the record for the longest in distance but not the longest in time, he pulled his chute at 5,100ft so couldnt have carried on for another 10seconds for that record

TBH what ever the figures are its still bloody amazing

Indeed, absolutely stunning to watch and something I personally won't forget in a while

I liked that too, made me chuckle.

Did anyone else's bum pucker up when he started to tumble?

Mine did that while he was stood on the edge of the "pod"

(but I bet his did, more so! :D)

I bet his was shut tighter than a camels eyes in a sandstorm.

According to the press conference he achieved 833.9 mph, that's Mach 1.24

Great data for high altitude bail outs for astronauts I would have thought. Wonder why NASA never did this before.
