I have a canon eos 40d and during cowes week here on the Isle Of wight there is a red arrows display , what settings would my learned friends recommend ? I have three lenses a Canon 17-85 is usm a sigma 70-300 apo dg whatever it is and a nifty 50 f1.8 mk2, I will be using the sigma and a monopod for the yachts so would like to keep this lens on for the red arrows but ....spot metering??? auto white balance??? aperture priority??? I do not know please advise.
My sensor looks like mr blobby at the moment too so I do not want to change lenses a lot if I can help it then I will get a sensor clean under warranty but that is another question for another time. So, to summarise, Settings for the Red Arrows please?
Thanks
Pete
IOW

Dont worry about your sensor for high speed action shots, normally you are at about f 5.6 or low really, and at 5.6 you can't see sensor poo, only at high f numbers like 16+...

Erm, over expose as your camera will probally meter the sky...

I will be shooting in RAW , the 70 -300 hundred lens will be the one to use then?? I mean these jets fly past at 4 or 500 MPH dont they??

I've shot the Arrows a lot. ( I live near them). Go for shutter priority of about 800s upwards. You should capture them at that. Auto white balance should be ok.
Use the longest length you can. Enjoy. ;)

p.s
I'm on Holiday in France at the moment and very drunk. Just happened to have found a wireless link.
I accept no responsibility for any advice given whilst being drunk...:naughty:
:lol::lol::lol:

Thank you for your advice , The Red Arrows are on the Island twice this summer one at cowes week which will be good and the next one is at sandown which is unusual because you can go up to culver down and almost be above them ...looking forward to it. The best advice is often passed on whilst one is drunk by the way......or is it???

Oooh I feel ill..... :eek::gag:
I might have to go for a lie down........ ;)
Its been very hot over here today, whats it like back home?....

Here on the Island it,s been hot , around 28c I was up at 4.30 am photographing the sunrise so I too need to lie down ....after I have finished my Glass of Strongbow on the rocks!!!

We are drifting off topic here a bit ..but hey we are both HAPPY by the sounds of it, You must be drinking some good old French plonk ...This must be better than CIDER.........................NOT...but cheaper I guess????
