Still brilliant though.
I think I was an aircraft geek in a former life

They are at Dunsfold on Sunday, so should be flying around here :)
So is the Vulcan (y)

I know, but the only thing showing for them today was Clacton Airshow at 15.00hrs which is completely the wrong direction and time!

nope. they left Norwich at 14.47 to show at Clacton, then returned to norwich approx 15.33, before refueling and departing 17.42 to Exeter. (Based at Exeter and Brize) for the weekend.

being in Norwich, and being one of the certified H&S bods, I felt it absolutely necessary to go up onto the flat roof at approx 12.10pm to ensure that all was ok up there (and... ooh look planes!)... also had to go back up at about 3.30pm just to make 100% sure that all was ok... ;-)

I think you should be commended on your dilligence tbh

did you see the two Lancasters fly over yesterday Ruth ? about 13:00 ish

Oh yes indeed. Two Saturdays running. I'm assuming they were buzzing Detling.

I had this odd dream a few weeks ago...

I was in my car with my kids, and driving along a main road, there are no airfields anywhere around there. Suddenly there is the RAF Tornado in a fly pass, leading four F-14 Tomcats, odd it may seem as the F-14 have been retired. They did the impossible thing, that movement can only work with the MiG-29, they just suddenly fly with their noses pointing upwards. One of the F-14 started to have engine problems, losing airspeed, again doing the impossible, the F-14 seems to be hovering like the new F-35 can do. It was making an emergency landing on the main road in front of me, I was following it until it landed and rolled up to the roundabout. It stopped, I got out almost to help the pilot should he be in trouble. But the pilot was fine, and taxied around the roundabout, and was attempting to take off down the main road, rather than holding up the traffic waiting for some flatbed truck to pick it up.

In all that time, I forgotten my camera!!!! I kept wondering if it was a dream trying to warn me to bring my camera because something more or less like that is going to happen.

Had the Arrows heading NE over Somerset Saturday evening.

Heard them coming so reached for my 50D with 70-300 IS fitted..... missing

SWMBO returned home later having neen shooting my son's cricket match...... her comment...... "the red arrows flew over the cricket match, so as I had your camera to shoot the cricket match, I took some shots.....

Camera set on P....

I cannot bring myself to look ... yet.

Thinking they were going to show over Bournemouth Saturday so prob easiest way back....

Sky over our house was carp Saturday......

Great sound

:-(

I get all September away from her......... roll on

To add insult to injury.......

I finally popped the memory card.....

Yep the Arrows....

Flight of 5 tucked together...

Then the other 4 a way back.....

Flying high enough to be "difficult" to be of much use other than a moment in time......

Then a single "southbound" aircraft.....

"SWMBO" butts in... "Oh I forgot that one, nothing much to talk about......"

I was looking at the outline of a Canberra .........

So she had my tolerant well useful 50D, set for cricket and just turned it to the skies........

Have loaded everything into LR5 and backed up her other 250+ sbots onto the spare ReadyNAS Duo I have allocated for her "stuff".

I will be away for September. I have test packed my EOS M kit and a couple of extra lenses...... 8 days to go then I am off to commence my journey. Will have a quiet time but the fates will probably intervene.
They always have.....

I met her in 1979....

Trouble is that whilst I was cataloguung my airshow 35mm slides back in 1984 I was working through Farnborough 1976..... A trade day, not so busy them days

Sepecat Jaguar beating up the main runway..... me panning..... there the slides revealed the future SWMBO stood, back to the runway looking straight into my camera... I met her 3 years later....

It's the fates so I may have to change the itinery of my trip.

Quite simply, without pictures, it did not happen! ;-)

Oh the pictures are there but 96% crops are not my thing.

I know I could go to the airshows and take my own but easier to enjoy the quality others on here who post in the Transport sections for others to critique and many thanls to them but having been involved in the aviation world both as an Air Cadet (Lightning Phantom Jaguar Harrier Canberra and a summer camp Shackleton flight) then a job with the development of the MRCA/ADV post university, I just cannot be ar*ed to battle for the same pictures at the same shows. I am just too weary.

All praise to the guys on here who do though and I am pleased for their successes and I feel for them when things are less successful

So I enjoy my landscapes and seascapes. A bit of off the beaten track stuff, which can be a battle in itself. I always enjoyed rail trips on the Goods lines around the old indudtrial areas during the mid-70s when diesel was king (If I win the lottery I will buy a Class 37)

I like cathedrals and their grounds and, living between Bath and Wells, I often wander down to the cafe inside the Bishop's Palace in Wells and wait for the light to play games on ancient stone.

And yet the sound of low flying military jets doing their best still stops me dead in my tracks and the need to look takes over. Bit nostalgia hits and my air cadet days come back.... summer camps on UK and German Bases........

The pictures are always in my head...... I fully appreciate those on here chasing their hobby tracking the plans or sitting in all weathers on the Mach Loop....

I have my old pictures from rolls of film...... Folland Gnats painted Red
..... Yep we have history old and new.

Best pictures this year for me.... 6 old gentleman sitting together in Durham...... All looking magnificent together for the last time. Much better than Crewe in the early 60s but that was history too.

What a fantastic hobby we all share. And thumbs up to the pros......
