Sadly the crash resulted in the death of the pilot Jon Egging

Oh dear that's terrible. In the comment section apparently the pilot was pulled out of a river.
 
Fingers crossed for him.

unconfirmed reports about the state of the Pilot as things stand

Daily Mail are reporting the pilot as dead.

They have crashed seven other times since they started, but this will be the first fatality. Two collided last year in training but one landed safely and one pilot ejected.
 
MOD have confirmed the Pilot has died
 
So very sad, watched them perform at Cromer on Wednesday and they were superb as usual. Thoughts are with friends and family of the pilot

apparently there have been fatalities before

There hasn't been a Red Arrows fatality since 1971, when four pilots died in a mid-air collision at Kemble, Glos, as two Folland Gnats attempted a cross-over manouevre known as the Roulette at speeds of 700mph.

I guess its inevitable that there'll be crashes when pilots are flying so close to the edges of their aircraft's capabilities
 
It is with sadness that the MOD must confirm the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the RAF Aerobatics Team (The Red Arrows).

Flt Lt Egging was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft – Red 4 – crashed around 1km South East of Bournemouth Airport at 1350 on Sat 20 Aug 2011

A full Service Inquiry into the crash has been initiated. It would be inappropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident at this time.

Really sad news ... just a few weeks since chatting to them on the next table in our hotel - condolences to the family.

Heartbreaking news.

I've admired the Reds all my life, in awe of them.
And this has absolutely gutted me. So terribly sad.

Have dedicated the pictures I took on Wednesday to his memory as seems appropriate.

Which got me thinking that there must be many a TP'er who has taken simply stunning photo's of the Red Arrows, wouldn't they make a fitting tribute?

I'm sure there are members on here who have the appropriate military connections should such a tribute seem fitting.

Well I never knew that. Kemble is my local airfield too.. They have a Gnat marked up in Reds Livery next to the control tower.
 
Is there just the one pilot ? - I thought hawk's were two seaters (and if so any news on the copilot/backseater etc)
 
As someone who grew up watching the Reds practice their displays over my house in Lincoln when I lived there, its honestly hit me hard. These guys are great to watch, and bring pleasure to so many people, and its so tragic to hear of the accident and unfortunate death of Flt Lt Egging.

Its not the time or place to discuss the whos, whys or wherefores of the accident, and I'd like to think people will use their discretion in this case.
 
It's about time some people started to grow up and stop the infantile behaviour we have been witnessing of late.

Keep this on topic and try and show some respect, common courtesy and decency.

Only one for displays, crew usualy fill second seat for transit between shows.

It is a very sad day, I saw them at RIAT this year, they were awesome! I am gutted! and think that we should show that we care and post some photo's as a tribute in this or a dedicated thread to John Egging. I am not in the miliatry but think it would be appreciated by them, all the same.

Edit : Removed and your duplicate account banned, and your initial short suspension has just been made longer. Next time it's permanent.
