Hi Folks

Can somebody recommend file recovery software, preferably cheap or free, for SD/CF cards. I use a Mac. I've looked at various offerings but don't want to spend too much as I'm not a pro and would only use it once in a blue moon - like today! :bonk:

Thanks

I've tried Stellar Phoenix, there appears to be a free download - it might show you what you can recover.

If you haven't over-written the photos, chances are quite good that you should be able to recover them.

Thanks for the info Nomad. I tried the free download and it worked well and identified all the deleted files. Unfortunately when you try and save/recover them you get directed to the 'buy' page which is about £70.

I've got over my immediate problem now but am still on the lookout for something that works well at a reasonable price.

I've used PhotoRec once or twice, with great success - it's free (and open source), though command line-based, so you'll need to be somewhat familiar with Terminal.

Once you've set it running, it'll scan through the card, and pull out everything it can find that makes a valid file, including still images and video. The original filenames will likely be lost, but the files themselves should all be perfectly intact.

Thanks Porsupah, I'll give it a try next time I need it
