ok ive had a bit of a mishap, my main pendrive has lost a load of files (mainly word, jpeg and powerpoint files) rather than being currupt they have just disappeared into thin air, and unfortunately the back up program has run and deleted those files from my backup as well.

would one of the programs used to recover deleted data from a memory card possibly find these files?

if so where can i get one of them from, i did have a load of lexar discs but i dont know where they are.

really really need to get these files back or i erm dont have any evidence of alot of lessons from my teaching practice!

I've used the Sandisk RescueDisk s/w to recover files - jpg, .doc & .pps - from a USB pendrive before. Works fine but original filenames are not retained - will be named RAW0001 and incrementing.

Have several copies of the Sandisk s/w so if you pm me your address will put a copy in post.

Download any recovery software and give that a try.

Tell your teacher your dog ate your homework.

Seriously:

1. Don't write any files to the drive until you've solved the problem or (temporarily) given up.

2. There's recovery software e.g. Magic Recovery Pro which'll find files that bypassed the Recycle Bin. On the other hand, software that targets specific filetypes can be more successful in some circumstances.

3. In future, avoid cramming your drives too full. Defragment them.

4. Backup, backup, backup. And backup. And again, if your career depends on your files.

I tried recuva last night, it got some of my files back but not all of them.

ive worked out what has happened, somehow everything 3 folders down in the file route has gone, the folders still remain and anything less than 3 folders is ok.

synctools which ive been using to backup has seen this change and (quite nicely) editted my backup to reflect the changes on the removable drive.

naturally ive stopped using synctools and will backup manually in future!

absolute nightmare though, i have hard copies of practically everything but im going to have to scan it back in to get it in electronic format which i need!

I think your problem was how you had synctools set up, I'm sure there would be a way to have it copy changes from one drive to the other in one direction only.
