I'm thinking of ditching Sky and going over to NowTV as I can get the channels I want for under £10 a month
Does anyone know of a way to record programmes as once I ditch sky they will disable that facility on my
sky box
I ten to set it to record series etc. and catch up with them when I have time

Isn't now TV an on demand service?

No idea, I know you need either a box or a usb stick to get it but it doesn't support recording on either

This from their site

Watch instantly on over 60 devices, including iPad, iPhone, your PC and even stream through games consoles or our very own NOW TV Devices.

As, I thought, is an on demand service over the internet so no need to record. You just watch stuff as and when you want to.

Freeview player any good or not the content you need?

Now TV is a bit crap for TV watching to be honest, a lot of the TV stuff is just delivered by apps on the stick and the quality on some of them like ITV is utter garbage.
The on demand stuff also is only delivered at 720p I believe at least it was when I tried one a few months ago.

You get some SKY channels delivered at 720p but it really is pretty lame.

NOW TV is pretty good if you want cheap SKY Sports or movies

The on demand box sets type stuff is good though.

FreeviewPlay seems best of both worlds, some content is on-demand (for a week I believe) and some other channels via BBC IPlayer, ITVHub etc are available or longer or record what you want recorded so you can watch anytime you like means you dont have to record everything if you know you'll catch-up within the time period.

As far as I can see it doesn't include some of the sky channels Now TV does I could be wrong.
Also it seems you have to have any now TV devise plugged direct to the TV so can't record to a freeview box
Don't watch sports or movie channels and rarely box sets, just normal weekly series that I am not
always around for, so is handy to just record them and catch up when I have time

The dedicated Now TV boxes and sticks (which are custom, limited versions of Roku devices) have various live Sky channels, catchup services and boxed sets (depending on which passes you subscribe to). Not everything you can see live is available on catchup (though pretty much everything I watch is). As well as Now TV's own app, the boxes/sticks also have separate apps for the popular free catchup services including iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and Demand 5, as well as Youtube and (with a separate subscription) Netflix. There's no way of recording anything for which catchup is not available via one of the apps. I think everything is 720P at the moment, with 1080P expected in the next few months. Their latest box is 4K-compatible but there isn't much content at the moment - I think just Netflix and some BBC stuff, etc. One of their older boxes has a Freeview HD tuner built in for broadcast TV, but that will be redundant for most users, and I think has been left out of the most recent box. Now TV also works in a desktop browser or a mobile device app, and their Android app supports Chromecast (though the Chromecast will count as a separate device, and you are limited to 4 active devices). If you want to save money on the subscription, multi-month vouchers are available (e.g. from Argos). They also tend to offer you a reduced price if you cancel your subscription. Even if you have no active subscription, the non-Sky catchup apps will continue to work on their boxes and sticks, which is handy if you don't have a recent smart TV.

Now TV is a streaming service, so it isn't designed to be recorded. Be aware that not all programmes are available on demand/catch-up, but a lot of them are. Confusing amount of deals on the go, but the one at the link has 12 months Sky Cinema and Entertainment for £106, and even includes the stick! https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/no...a-entertainment-package-for-106-nowtv-3106686

Don't get a NowTV stick, it's way too proprietorial.

Roku is one of the best independents available and will stream NowTV, Netficks, all the domestic on demand services plus a few more. As mentioned, you can't save programmes, as they are streamed.

I use the above in conjunction with a Humax Freeview box, which can record live channels. Or you could get a FreeSat box which offers a few more channels.

The Now TV box is a rebadged Roku, but has a more limited app store controlled by Sky. You still get all the major free UK terrestrial catchup services on both, as well as Netflix (because Sky has done a deal with them) and of course the Now TV app itself, but Sky competitors like Amazon Prime Video and Google Play Movies, not to mention personal streaming service Plex, aren't available on the Now TV box. Spotify has come and gone.

On the other hand, Now TV devices are often more or less given away with subscription vouchers. There are some good Black Friday deals with Now TV sticks thrown in for less the the usual price of subscriptions alone:

Thanks everyone Demilion has answered my question, I can't record programmes so Now TV isn't going to work for me.
It really is just a few Sky channels I would like to be able to record, all basic entertainment not the premuim stuff
