Any suggestions for a program which will allow me to record programmes/music onto my PC please?

Thanks,
AL

Thanks all. Don't want to do anything illegal really so I'll forget it. I wonder if it was illegal in the old days recording radio programmes with my old Grundig TK-14 tape recorder ;)

legally i dont think you can without violating copyright. unless the broadcaster provides a method of download.

You can certainly record off-air for later listening/viewing. This covers radio and TV broadcasts.

If it is available on BBC iplayer, or similar, then any video downloader will work

I use Video Downloadhelper for Firefox.

Are you sure? iplayer is pretty clever.
I wanted a snippet from a TV show which showed a local spot - and ended up using a screen recorder.

I think so :) It certainly used to work. Not done it for a while, but there again I have a few video capture programs to get around any difficulties.

You can record the broadcast datastream for later use - which is what PVRs and VCRs did. However, broadcast has a legal definition which isn't met by many internet streams and you aren't allowed to change the format of the streams (e.g. change the file format) or circumvent the protection measures in place.

Audacity (free) can be configured to record whatever is coming out of your PC speakers. Google covers the how.
