Afternoon All.

I'm looking for a good Youtube channel or online course that gives some great pointers but also has a "try this" aspect.

Ideally focusing around the composing and prep before hitting the button.

I think Gavin Hoey is a great starting point for you. He has a wide range of videos covering various subjects like landscape, studio work, portraits and quirky things like water droplet and smoke photography. He is a great teacher breaking things down to be easily understood. He also covers the processing of his shots too. He likes flash and he loves the clarity slider!

He had his own channel but can also be found as a teacher with Adorama. I think its "take and make great photography" or something along those lines.

Thank you. Checked this out today and it's a great start just what I was after. Can't wait to try water droplet pictures.

I've used Phlearn since the first episode and think some of the early stuff is certainly worth a look. I only have bought a couple of Pro tutorials (when they used to be cheaper!) but I've found these to be excellent, nice having the actual photo files downloadable too in case you wish to follow along with the same image.
 
I enjoy watching the art of photography. Excellent as it does not focus on gear but on real photographers and composition
 
I've been considering an online learning option and wondering if Lynda.com is worth subscribing - they have some trial options so I may take a look.
